Shutdown Corner - NFL

Here's a rare example of a good kind of wide receiver crazy. Indinapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne(notes) showed up to camp yesterday in full construction gear. Hard hat, orange vest, tool belt, lunch box ... he even had a giant dump truck.

The message he's trying to get across? It's printed clearly on the hard hat. "Super Bowl: Under Construction".

Reggie explains here in some NFL Network footage:

I like it. It's creative, it's funny and it's team-first. I think it shows that, with Marvin Harrison(notes) out of the picture, that Reggie Wayne is ready to take over a bigger leadership role and let teammates know that now is the time to work.

The problem here, he didn't really have anything to say when the press asked him what he was doing...All show...It was a great idea, he just needed a writer to scrip out what his message was...Manning as the janitor was weak too.

MJD, I got your next story. It's a doosy:
The agent for cornerback Antonio Cromartie confirms that the San Diego Chargers have fined his client $2,500 for using Twitter to complain about the food at training camp.
The offending tweet apparently equated the food quality with the Chargers’ failure to reach the Super Bowl in recent seasons.
Yeah, it was the food that made the Chargers fail to reach the bowl. What a joke.

The Colts have to figure out a way to beat the Chargers in the playoffs then maybe they can win another SB.

charger fans the 3rd most obnoxious group in sports. you never let up, and whats appalling is the fact (although your complete lack of success is glaringly apparent) you persist in telling us how great you are. get a job.

Srry Geoff, theyre busy grinding on shawn merriman's bum leg. In other news, philip rivers kicks puppies and steals candy from babies. LT got his toe amputated. And also, Norv turner will choke as a coach in his 3rd year with a team like he always does. Then aj smith will put all the blame on him. chargers cycle, rinse, repeat.
