A couple of boys in the Pittsburgh area were involved in a friendly game of backyard football when the pigskin got away from them. It rolled down near a wooded area, and when one lad went to retrieve it, some grumpy, child-hating deer attacked him in a Joey Porter(notes)-like fit of rage.

Here's the news report from KDKA in Pittsburgh.

The kid only suffered a little bruising, and, as the video notes, he's fine now. In fact, I'd argue that he's even better than he was before, because now he knows he's got a friend that has his back.

Seriously, a nine-year-old boy picks up a stick and starts clubbing a crazed deer? That kid is awesome. He can be on my team any day. Bring the stick, young man. We've got a defensive line to get through.

Gracias, Second-String Fullback.

I used the stick like a sword? That stick is like 7 inches long. Don't bring a stick to a deer fight.

Pause the video at 1:35. Where are the antlers?

Regardless of whether or not it was a buck, these kids are lucky that's all the damage they ended up taking. I know it sounds ridiculous, but deer have very sharp hooves and have been known to cut people up pretty badly. This is why you don't try and feed/tame wild animals. They're much better off on my plate. I mean, in the wild.

Most boring news story ever. When the most exciting footage is either a) a bunch of 4th graders playing catch and poorly re-enacting the story, or b) repeated slow-motion shots of a young deer crossing the street, um, yeah, there's gotta be something more interesting going on in Western PA/Eastern Ohio.
On the other hand, sales of guns and ammunition have skyrocketed in Wintersville, and Sarah Palin has announced a visit to hold a news conference with the boys and announce a call to arms against all deer, everywhere..

I'm only commenting because if this is a slow news day, Yahoo! is bound to put this on the front page. And I want to be on the first page of comments.

In the Northern US they have trouble with bears coming out of the woods into civilization. The best way I know of keeping them away is to erect goalposts.

What is grandma doing throwing rocks at a deer? No wonder it attacked her grandson. It was probably pissed off.

#11 Five_outs... LMAO. Good one. A friend of mine in Philly told me how to ward off an eagle attack: Give him less than a yard to reach you...

The story seems a little strange to me. First off the deer in the video is a doe not a buck. Deer only attack when provoked or for protection. If you come between a deer and their young, they will attack you. If you attack a deer or corner them, they will raise up and attack you because they are trying to defend themselves. Also the stick that the friend supposedly wielded as a sword was so small that if anything he probably threw it. What probably happened was the kids saw the deer and was torturing it by throwing things at it. She probably had a fawn nearby and was trying to protect her fawn.

I know in michigan you will find your self in court if you harass an animal in the wild. ( this case the nieborhood ). so, let this be a ( warning ) do not throw rocks at wild animals ,they may start fighting back!!

That is shocking. I thought that the story was actually something someone with a heart beat would give a "enter your favorite expletive here" about. Give me a stick so I can smack you over the head. Oh and Happy Thanksgiving! I want those 3 minutes of my life back.

That was a Doe, not a buck and if that so called "Buck" was grearing up for a fight with another buck he would be in some trouble not having any antlers lol. Glad the kid was ok, this has happened before. It's because the Doe's are in Heat, which put the "Bucks" in what we call a "RUT" in which they search out Doe's to mate with. When two bucks are searching for the same Doe or in the same area, then the bucks fight for dominance in the area.

Stop the tape at about 1:37 1:38 and you can see the shadow of the antlers. You cant see them earlier because they blend in with the background

It actually did happen. I live near the town. What it's not noting is it took place back on around Oct. 12 so it amazes me this would get put up now, especially on a sports blog.
