Shutdown Corner - NFL

Over the Lines is Shutdown Corner's weekly looks at NFL point spreads. It was late in getting started this year because it doesn't work, drive in a car, ride in a car, handle money or roll on Shabbos.

Washington Redskins (-6.5) at Detroit Lions -- The bums won't always lose. The woeful Lions, they of the 19-game losing streak, rookie quarterback and empty stadium, have become a trendy pick this weekend to get their first victory since 2007. Cole, Robinson and Silver are all picking Detroit. So is Peter King and the slew of "experts" at CBSSports.com. That's a pretty big bandwagon to be filled solely on the basis of getting out to an early lead against the Vikings. But with all the success rookie signal callers have had in the past two years, I'd put nothing past John Stafford.

Atlanta Falcons (+4) at New England Patriots -- The Falcons are 2-0, the Patriots should be 0-2. The Falcons quarterback looks like the NFL's next big thing. The Patriots quaterback looks like the NFL's last big thing. The line of this game accurately reflects this. So why does it still feel like the Falcons aren't a worthy adversary? Maybe it's because Arthur Blank pushes around phonies in wheelchairs. I've seen a lot of spinals in my days, and I'm certain that goldbricker can walk.)

Miami Dolphins (+6) at San Diego Chargers -- Say what you will about the tenets of the Wildcat, Norv Turner, but at least it's an ethos.

Kansas City Chiefs (OFF) at Philadelphia Eagles -- Sure, Michael Vick(notes) may be sorry. But the true test is whether he'd bring Cynthia and Marty Ackerman's Pomeranian bowling.

Fools, picking the Lions because they need they win. All 32 teams need a win. And losing the past 19 games and expecting a win, is like flipping a coin and expecting heads because tails came up last time. The Lions suck. The Redskins will push into the endzone unlike last week. Redskins 28 Lions 10

hey, the team with the "empty stadium" sold out their home opener, which is more than we can say about jacksonville, two years removed from a playoff appearance. the lions may suck, but they have some pretty loyal fans, especially living in a state with the highest unemployment.

How come your don't talk crap about Ogunleye? Are you sure he's "sorry" for his crime? Especially in light of the fact that he was recently busted for DUI again...you know, the same crime that led to his murder of innocent people...
The media in general pisses me off with what they decide and choose to get uppity about. Screw you.
You've done some pretty awful things in your life too Mr. Chase, why not let am an who actually paid his dues for his crime start over without your smart-assed quips?

    Sports Analyst are REALLY naive.
This Lions team is WORSE than last years Lions team.
Do you remember how many Close games the Lions played in last year?
Zero, if you don't include Minnesota. Which I don't.

A Stafford by any other name still had 2 picks and only 152 yds last week. Since the Redskins will definitely stuff the run, they need get some better production out of the QB position to even come close to an upset. Skins win by 10.
