Shutdown Corner - NFL

Danks and I welcome special guest Michael Tunison this week, to discuss his new book, "The Football Fan's Manifesto."

The book lays down some definitive ground rules for NFL fanhood, and Mike was good enough to help us clear up the etiquette on some important issues. Rooting for injuries, playing Madden, your NFL team vs. your fantasy team, geographical rooting obligations ... it's all covered here. We also get into a little bit of talk about current hot-button issues, like Plaxico Burress(notes) and Brett Favre(notes).

From there, Danks tries to make me talk about Brett Favre, but I don't want to. We quickly steer the conversation to sprinting sensation Usain Bolt, and we toss around some theories about how he might fare as the Raiders first-round draft pick as a wide receiver in the NFL. He's got the size and the build, but obviously, there are a ton of other factors that have to be considered.

And, as always, we've got the abusive e-mail of the week and our continuing inability to close a podcast with any grace or dignity whatsoever.

I think it will be an okay choice he might ruin his running career but i think he should do it there is a lot of teams who are in need of a running back.

kakafan08: I think you are an idiot who can't read and feels it necessary to post 4 times. He would be trying his chances at Wide Receiver not Running back. Do you really think that guy could run between the tackles or even to the outside? He'd get killed with every linebacker hit.

yeah he can run, incredibly fast, but can he catch? thats the key. speed means nothing without hands. the next question is can he take a hit because thats would be crucial too. its possible that he may be an all around athlete a la renaldo nehemiah who was an olympic sprinter or hurdler before joining the niners in the 80's. he was very fast and a decent but never great receiver. bolt would likely max out around the same level. he should stick to sprinting where he is the top dog by far then even consider the nfl where he'd be real low on the totem pole.

After his first hit by a linebacker of defensive back he would go back to track and field never to return to football!

This podcast sucked. You're posts are entertaining, but you should tighten up your on-air time. It was painful.
