Nick Kaczur breaks, and then aids, the law

Back in April, Patriots offensive lineman Nick Kaczur was reportedly arrested and charged with illegal possession of OxyContin, a prescription painkiller that's also sometimes referred to as "hillbilly heroin" or "that stuff Rush Limbaugh used to like."

But after the arrest, the story turned into just another familiar tale of a New England Patriot doing a little bit of secretive recording. That old chestnut.

The Boston Globe reports that Kaczur, after being arrested, wore a wire during three following drug transactions in which he paid $3,900 for 100 pills each time (for something labeled as "hillbilly," that stuff is expensive). It eventually resulted in the arrest of the alleged dealer, Daniel Ekasala.

Kaczur denies any knowledge of anything, even though the Globe's report is pretty thorough, citing a lawyer, two people briefed on the investigation, and a six-page affidavit filed by a DEA agent.

Kaczur, approached yesterday afternoon by a Globe reporter as he stood on the front porch of his Attleboro home, denied participating in a DEA investigation or buying drugs. He also said he was not familiar with Ekasala.

"I don't know what you're talking about, bro," Kaczur said repeatedly, in response to questions about the investigation. "I don't know where this is coming from. I don't know what you are talking about."

When asked if he was still playing for the Patriots, Kaczur, whose salary is listed at just under than $1.4 million this year, said, "Yeah."

There's been no word on Rodney Harrison wearing a wire to help bust any HGH dealers.

How you choose to see Kaczur's alleged actions will probably depend on your views on crime and/or your like or dislike of the New England Patriots. Maybe he's a guy who helped to right a wrong by aiding police in the capture of a drug dealer, or maybe he's a snitch who rolled over on someone else in order to help himself. Your call.

Kaczur just better hope that Carmelo Anthony doesn't find out about this.

MJD called it right this time, People who don't like the Pats are acting like this is the worse thing to happen in sports (there have been 10 players caught this year alone with illegal substances). People who support the Pats (or at least don't dislike them) see it as a guy doing the right thing after he got caught. People do drugs, (I see nothing wrong with that), but for now they're illegal and anyone involved with them is subject to getting caught and facing the penalties involved. If the dealer didn't want to risk that, he shouldn't be dealing.

Outing an operative started with a sitting President outing his own CIA operatives when they publicly spoke out against a war. The media had the gall to put their names in print. Has this set the tone for journalists to out informants? There used to be a day not long ago when a reporter would go as far as sit in jail for contempt to protect a source. If there is merit to this story, outing an informant is not a way to protect the process of prosecution. It has endangered the informant's life. The news today is that a convicted dealer who alleged dealing to the NFL was murdered just today. Somethings are not newsworthy. Naming an undercover informant or drawing troop positions in the sand are well beyond objective reporting.

#4 apparently you either don't normally read MJD's blogs, or you have a very short memory. He bags on the Pats every chance he gets. He's shown time and time again that he is not a Pats supporter, and loves to see their tuchas' in a sling. Yep 1 player on the Pats was caught with a misdemeanor's worth of OC's ( 10 pills or less). Ooh no that's so terrible. Look back and you'll see players with pounds of marijauna being snagged by the police. Ever since I was a kid growing up I knew that players were doing drugs. the majority of the league has done some illegal substances, we all know they do. Don't act suprised when 1 gets caught.
