Pat yourselves on the back, NFL fans. The NFL asked you to donate to relief efforts in Haiti, and you responded like a champ. You came through in a big, big way. From Red Cross spokesman Roger Lowe, via the New York Times:
The National Football League’s promotion of text-message donations during its weekend playoff games produced stunning results, with money “coming in at the rate of $500,000 an hour,” said Roger Lowe, a Red Cross spokesman.
“I need a better word than ‘unprecedented’ or ‘amazing’ to describe what’s happened with the text-message program,” Mr. Lowe said.
Did you hear that, non-NFL fans? What we just did was amazing and unprecedented, and it happened because NFL fans are awesome. NBA, MLB, NHL, and MMA fans ... you need to step up your donation game. We're crushing you.
But in all seriousness, if you did give, I'm happy for you, and I hope you'll consider doing it again. If you've yet to give, give it some thought. Whether it's the Red Cross, the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, Doctors Without Borders, or any other charity that can help, consider giving.
It can't help but build good karma for your team in the playoffs.
Gracias, The Huddle.
