My Valentine for Roger Goodell

From what I can gather, here's what Roger Goodell has done in regards to the Spygate investigation:

He listened to someone's complaints, he asked the Patriots about, he took the evidence that the Patriots gave him (because they pinky-swore they gave him everything!), he destroyed it almost immediately, punished the Patriots, told everyone there was nothing to see here, and then went on about his business.

But, after his meeting with Senator Arlen Specter yesterday, we now know some more things. Said Specter:

"There was confirmation, there was a statement that the Patriots have taped since the year 2000 when Coach Belichick took over. There's no doubt it had an impact on the games. It is hard to tell what games are involved with the destruction of the notes and the tapes. And no really valid reason was given for the destruction of the notes and the tapes.

I find a lot of the questions unanswerable because the tapes and notes had been destroyed. And I felt
, as I've said, that some answers were insufficient, but it was congenial and intense."
And Goodell keeps saying:
"I have nothing to hide."
I can only assume he means that he has nothing to hide, other than the stuff he's already hidden. Because before yesterday, no one ever told us that the Patriots had videotaped games since 2000. No one ever brought up the Steelers games in '04/'05.

These were things that Roger Goodell knew, and he never told the public. I think that qualifies has "hiding."

He did not share this information with the people who invest time and money in the NFL, assuming that they're watching a clean and fair game. I don't care what he says, he's hidden things, and I'm sorry, but the people who spend hard-earned money on the NFL have a right to know these things.

Asked again by the media why he destroyed the tapes, Goodell said this:
"We had an admission of guilt. There was no purpose for the tapes. The tapes are competitive. They contained nothing other than the coaches signals that had any violation of our policy. So there was no purpose to that. I didn't want them to have access to that, and I don't want the other 32 teams to have access to it."
Well here's a crazy idea, commissioner. If Andy Reid or Tony Dungy or Mike Nolan come to you and ask to see the tapes ... TELL THEM NO. Better yet, dip into the league coffers and go purchase yourself a little safe. And if someone asks for the combination, again, you can just tell them no. It's a wild and unusual technique, but it will work.

The "investigation" conducted by Roger Goodell has been the worst investigation in the history of investigations. Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby routinely did better investigative work on Saturday mornings.

So here's a Valentine, Commissioner Goodell, from me to you. Thanks for nothing, pal.

    Nice Valentine. Worst commissioner ever.
Ever notice that everywhere those meddling kids went, there was always a mystery to be solved? They couldn't even go out for ice cream without ghosts showing up.

"I did not have sex with that woman" Oh, sorry, wrong scandal. Obviously, Goodell wanted to sweep this under the carpet quickly, but it just may hang around awhile. As far as this going on since 2000, it just backs up the cheater label.

FINALLY! My husband (St. Louis Rams fan) and I have been saying they have been cheating since the 1st Super Bowl they won against the Rams. We thought the officials had been bought because of all of the calls they didn't make against the Cheatriots then. We were delighted to find we were right. They are cheating and have been ever since Bellicheat started! I finally feel vindicated. Now they need to yank all of those Lombardi trophies and give them to the Cheatriots opponents. I am truly sickened by what Bellicheat has done to the sport of football. Hope the fires of Hell are hot enough for him!

The same day that the NFL fined the Patriots 250,000 and Belichick 500,000, there was an F1 team that was fined 100 million dollars for cheating. What is the current minimum salary in the NFL? does the amount of money in the fines seem in line? Vivian what are you actually saying? It is very hard to even decipher what you posted? The Jets as far as I know have not been caught cheating. They were denied the right to film at NE at the end of the season but that was it unless I missed something.

I am so glad that Mr. Specter was able to take care of all of his government business like ending the war, health care reform balancing the budget so we could be blessed with his great knowledge to help the nfl. Old man go to hell!!

Why don't you all post the names of the teams you are a fan of, then we can tell if you're whining out of the frustration of your teams lack of success. Here's your new list of priorities, Arlen...The war started under false pretenses, special interest lobbyists, campaign finance reform, super-delegates and judges overriding the popular vote, oil price gouging, predatory lending institutions....Ah, forget it. We saw what you did with the investigation into the Kennedy assassination. It's ok for you to sweep things under the rug, but nobody else, eh? Hypocrite.

Hey, the Pats admitted to cheating. It was an in house issue and Roger handled it the best way he saw fit. The league fined and punished the Patriots. Should it have been a stiffer penalty, that is open for argument. How can the great Arlen Specter accuse someone of a cover up? He was the attorney involved in the JFK cover up. He was responsible for the investigation and the country still do not know the truth. He has the nerve to talk about Godell when he has government bones in his closet. Ask him about the Warren Commission. He needs to get off his high horse and deal with government issues and not continue to cover those up as well.

Hey Den G, Good take, man! You'll have to hold the fort of common sense. Gotta go. I'd love to stay and write some much-needed sense into the rest of you bitter retards, but I have a life. Glad I was home sick today to witness the idiocy of you crybabies. Here's to watching the Patriots beat your loser teams next year! What are those machines on every teams sideline spitting out pictures all game long? And the video cameras in every teams booth? They couldn't POSSIBLY get other teams signals from those, could they?! Ignoramuses. Your teams cheat too. Get over it

Specter is an old attorney who smelled a rat just like most of the NFL fans, when Goodell destroyed the evidence and tried to sweep this under the rug. I bet Dan Rooney is regretting recommending Goodell for Commissioner. This is how he repays Mr. Rooney's trust and the rest of the team owner's trust. Evidence was found of cheating for 8 years and no one was suspended and the evidence was destroyed. I am sorry, but Belichek should be banned from the sport and Kraft should have to pay an exorbitant fine and give up a percentage of profits to be divided amongst the rest of the NFL teams. Goodell should rectify his mistake and do this immediately, letting other teams know cheating will not be tolerated.

Bloodjuice, thanks for destroying the credibility of all the other bitter crybabies looking for vengeance with that disgusting illustration. It shows the IQ level of all you lifeless losers. I would ask you to stop publicizing your jerk-off fantasies, but that's obviously as close as you will ever get to a real woman. Get out the tire-patch kit...I think your girlfriend is quickly deflating.

I really dont know how much filming other teams signals can help you, I am not a football coordinator, but I dont think that is the point of this discussion, the point I think, as the article tells (good writing by the way), is that this investigation is a complete JOKE!!!. Goodell thinks that all football fans a complete idiots, those excuses for the destructions of the tapes are down right stupid.

While I agree that the nation as a whole is entitled to honest gamesmanship in all it's professional sports, am I the only one around who is wondering why our government is wasting time and taxpayers money to investigate things like spygate and the MLB? Last I checked, these are private entities and, as long as no laws are being broken, should be allowed to exist on their own and police their own actions. Doesn't Congress have more important things to tend to like a falling economy, a war overseas, an upcoming election, and th day-to-day operations of running a country?

Why are Senators investigating this? How many hundreds of millions of dollars are they going to spend investigating baseball and football. What possible harm was there to the general public? No offense folks but we have serious problems in this country and wasting time and money here does nothing to solve it. I wonder how many season tickets old windbag Arlan squeezed out of the deal???

If I am not mistaken, the rule says you can't video FROM the sideline and you can't use the video during the game. I guarantee that 100% of the other teams videotape the other teams' signals from the press box or elsewhere in the stadium. Maybe Belichick knows, but what advantage there is to doing it from the sideline versus elsewhere in the stadium is beyond me. I have to believe that any advantage that the Patriots gained from this taping was minimal.
Furthermore, if a team does not change their defensive signals from game to game (if not during the game itself) then they are MORONS and deserve to lose.

    Oh yeah...
If I were one of Arlen Sphincter's constituants, I would be irate that he is wasting on second of time or one penny of taxpayers' money on this. Belichik did not break any laws and even if he taped every single game they played, I have yet to hear a convincing argument as to how the Patriots benefitted from it more than if they taped it from anywhere else in the stadium, where it is allowed.

The country must have lost their marbles on this one. This guy is senator, what a crying shame that he in on a witch hunt against Belchick. We elect senators to take care of real world problems, like education, economy, health care, crime in the inner city, what the hell is this guy spending US$ on an Amercian Past Time like football. He should be fired for putting his nose into the situation and neglecting his real job, like tackly human life issue, like crime. What the hell is wrong with the people for being too stupid to not get involved with real life, not all of us are that stupid. Fire the Senator! impeach his butt!
