Shutdown Corner - NFL

After his tirade on Vernon Davis last Sunday, some insinuated that new 49ers head coach Mike Singletary was crazy like a fox. It turns out, he might just be plain ol' crazy.

Dan Bickley of azcentral.com writes on his blog that sources inside the 49ers locker room on Sunday said that Singletary -- well, let's let Bickley explain:

At halftime of that game, Singletary called for the attention of his players. He then dropped his pants, turned around and pointed to his backside. He used this occasion and that visual to describe what happened to his team in the first half.

A NFL source inside the room confirmed the story with my radio partner, XTRA 910 football guru Mike Jurecki, and added that Singletary then addressed the team for 3-4 minutes with his pants around his ankles.

As Kramer once told Jerry, "story like that's gotta be true."

This is absolutely great stuff. Singletary is the man. What better way to describe to your team at halftime how bad you are sucking against a team who was even more garbage than they were coming into the game? Captures the emotion perfectly because lets face it, San Fran has been grabbing their ankles and taking it for some time now. The team too.

Singletary is going to turn out to be a clown. He's getting a pass right now because he's built up a ton of respect, but 2 to 3 years from now we're going to look back at all these incidents and he's going to be worse than Jim Mora and Dennis Green combined.
Hey Mike, waaaay too much material for just one week!

People people people, If any of you were head coach of this team you would have to think of SOMETHING to either let them know that embarrassing is where the team is at right now and all of them need to pull up their proverbial
pants and play like men. How many years does it take to learn this game anyway?

Most of these cats playin on the 9ers aint used to someone keeping it real. Some are playing just for the checks. Coach Sing wants them to play for the LOVE OF THE GAME AND THE CHECK. Shouldn't be too hard for these cats to do

Coach Singletary is a class act, this is whats lacking in the NFL; these players need to remember they can be replaced and the lack of discipline on and off the field will not be tolerated.

I love Singletary and I'm a huge Bears fan. It's hard to say that Singletary is a class act when he's pulling down his pants in the locker room and giving pep talks while everyone is staring at his massive johnson although.

Dropping his trousers to make a point may be called "visual coaching". Out of the box tactics to say the least! Let's face it, had any of the players up until that very moment been heeding the pleas of their former coach to perform, perform perform!? NO! If it takes a moon shot and having to stare at Coach Sings MANDINGO to ram home the message, then so be it. If for no other reason, the players will play their butts off this coming Sunday to avoid another JOHNSON LASHING.

He is what the 49ers need. You won't see a TO get a 15 yard penalty for showing off and his wimpy coach won't say a word. Also ranting and raving at his team mates along the side line and not say a word. He and Pansy Jones are afraid they might upset him.

Singletary made a good point...MAYBE IF MORE BALLS DROPPED IN THE LOCKER ROOM THEN LESS BALLS WOULD BE DROPPED ON THE FIELD!!! Thats the difference between playin like boys and playin like men! Thats how players like MONTANA, RICE, YOUNG (8 & 97), LOTT, AND CRAIG ETC....ARE BORN AND REMEMBERED!! The talent to win the division is there but is the Heart??? Best of luck to the new QB Mr.Hill...Niner fans are watching!

#2- noreaster-- You are so right. If nothing else Singletary got their attention. Let's see if the 49ers still enjoy getting their a$$es kicked. The rest of the season shouldbe interesting.

MAN I LOVE THIS COACH. Mike Singletary is the man. Major props to Vernon Davis for recognizing that and embracing that fire. We need more players and coaches like this around the league. They better make him the head coach for good because if I were the owner of a team like the Lions or the Bengals I would go after Mike like a hungry dog chasing a rabbit covered in beef jerky.

Unfortunately, Mike Singletary did not get to pick the players he has inherited as the new coach. The lame owners the Yorks (should be Yucks) are the ones who let this team get so bad. Hopefully, his coaching career will not be defined by the group of losers that the Yorks assembled. They want to replace J T O'Sullivan, but tell me how can any QB survive when they are getting sacked and hurried the most times in the league. If the offensive line does not give the QB any time to find a receiver then no QB will ever perform decently.
