Michael Vick is about to get all literary on us

From the bottom of an article about Michael Vick hiring a new defense attorney comes this interesting little tidbit about Michael Vick possibly going all Rubin "Hurricane" Carter while in the joint and writing a book. From the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Vick allegedly has written a book while in prison and is seeking co-authors and a publisher.

“That may or may not be in the making,” [attorney Daniel] Meachum said. “That would too premature right now. But I’m committed to helping Mike get back on his feet.”

Translation: "Yeah, Mike will put a book out there, if there's enough money in it for him." Fair enough, I guess.

And I assume we're talking about an autobiography here, as opposed to a novel or a well-researched edition of "Dog Genocide for Dummies."

If that is the case, I wouldn't mind reading about Vick's life through Vick's eyes, provided that he's going to give an honest and open account of things. I'd like to know how a guy gets to a point where he finds joy in drowning a dog. I'd like to know what it was like for him in prison. I'd like to know how he came up with "Ron Mexico."

But again, all of this depends on how honest he's willing to be, and how committed he is to the project. If it's a quick cash grab, and he has no interesting in truly telling his story, it will suck. It's up to him.

If it was just a quick cash grab, though, I'd rather he did the honorable thing, skipped the book, and fought O.J. Simpson on FOX's celebrity boxing.

Gracias, The Huddle.

I am sure it will be right up there with T.O's and Keyshawn in terms of value and entertainment. To think how much I enjoyed watching him in Atlanta. It really is too bad.

His history is of lies. If the book is a total money grab and continued cover up then we can assume he is still in denial of his flaws and guilt and not truly remorseful for his actions.

on the other hand. If he has truly seen the light and is going to really show us the world through his eyes, then yeah, it could be fascinating. We will see.

your post is chief is stupid. maybe there are individual out there who don't give a damn about a dog. maybe there are individuals who think that his serving time for an offense against an animal is wrong. the federal law that he was convicted of, was only passed in 2007 by w. i guess to get micheal vick. if you remember the scene outside of the court room it was divided down racial lines. a book that recounts how he was treated unfairly, will be a big success in the black community.

Sorry about the double post. But you're entire post smells of racism, but as I said it doesn't matter. If he writes a book, millions of black people will buy it.

Give Vick a chance Give Vick a chance. He has done bad things and did his time now let the man have a second chance at life. I know it was dogs but at least its not his wife or girlfriend or somebody on the street. Hopefully the book will give us a real reason to why he did it or the truth and we all know it. The money and the fame in that type of life. It happens to the best too much money and now you don't know what to do with it. Man at least he is not Michael Jackson luring kids to his house or Eddie Murphy with tyrannies. Give the man his life back he is a great football player and has done more than enough time in jail.

Dont compare Vick's story to Rubin Carter's, please. Vick got caught, and I truly doubt he's one bit remorseful. As for writing a book, yes he will be amongst the literary greats of T.O. and O.J. Instant Karma's Gonna Git You.

I meant Leonard Little of the Rams. Larry Little was a HOF guard who played for the Dolphins in the 70's. Vick's former lawyer Billy Martin got the former basketball player, Jason Williams, off for killing his Limo driver. There's supposed to be a re-trial. I could fill a chapter of how he was treated unfairly and how he should have never gone to jail.

give him a chance? indeed no, he's had his chances and proven time and time again that he has no class, i wouldn't read his book for anything... i hope he just fades away, he'll probably be back in prison within 3 years...

Ray Lewis paid an out of court settlement to the two victims for 3 million dollars. this is admission on his part that he was responsible for the deaths of two people. Right now, Donte' Stallworth probably has Billy Martin as his lawyer and is n4egotiating an out of court settlement in the millions. that's what he did to get Jason Williams off. No victim families to press for a conviction; no conviction. Michael has lost close to 100 million. so are you OK with Stallworth paying the victim 5 million and being suspended for 4 games? No victim no crime. Your remedy is criminal or civil or both. If the civil remedy is good enough for you(5 million for your father's life), then there is no crime. Dogs, the government jailed Michael, that was not fair.

I dont care about Vick anymore .Its like talking about how the Pats cheated in the playoffs and the SBs to win.
Its a dead issue so lets all move on from bring up Vick or How the Pats cheated in the playoffs and the SBs to win.
or how bellidk misinterpreted the rules and how he was the ONLY ONE to do it.
We need to move on from these topics.

Leonard Little did time and missed more than 4 games number one. He was made inactive for the remaining four games the season the accident happened and then suspended for 8 games the next season. Number two, he did apologize and continues to speak at schools in the area to try and prevent someone from repeating his mistake. Don't think I'm defending the action here but I have a problem when people get on their high horse about drunk driving accidents. Little suffered much more financially and professionally than if you or I would have done the same thing and based on the average sentence for drunk driving accidents... he was sentenced much harder than the norm. It seems crazy but look it up.
Here in St. Louis we just had a guy with 4 or more prior DUI's (some with accidents) kill someone going the wrong way on the highway while drunk. He is not rich or famous yet has never done any significant jail time. There have been a couple of cases like that in recent months including some involving off duty cops which is really apalling. Plus my other challenge to people is can you honestly tell me that you have never driven when you weren't supposed to. Most of us have (I regret it but am guilty) and we just get lucky that we haven't hurt anyone. Whether you get home safely or run a red light and kill someone, the action was exactly the same, you drove when you were intoxicated and no matter what you think you weren't in complete control of that vehicle. As far as I'm concerned my personal actions were every bit as horrendous as a drunk driver who kills someone. Most of the time you get lucky but not all the time. Now to talk about why someone gets a lighter sentence for attempted murder than if they actually hit their target.... Our legal system is f'ed.

He should be put in a cage and fight those pitbulls. Let's see how he likes it. People always say let's give so and so a chance to play in pro sports again. Why not give a chance to someone else who is a good model citizen, instead of someone who acts like a complete azzzz? We already have enough of them who act like Pac Man Jones and Alan Iverson

COME ON....You all really need to know "WHY" he did it?
It was a bunch of guys with lots of money and the desire to look tougher and more gangster then the next guy.
Its the same thing that gets High school kids in trouble, the only difference is most never let it get so deranged and grow out of it. These guys couldn't grow out of it, most likely because the "hip hop" culture preaches that physical and mental cruelty give you the most street cred. This is irrelevant to race as even white, asian, and latino "hip hop artists" engage in the same "pissing contest".

Treat Vick like the murderer he is. Any team or publisher that takes a chance on him deserves the backlash they get. He served his time, and he deserves his shot a free and normal life now, but that doesn't mean he should be forgiven for what he did. It was despicable.

samspade: A reference to slavery and how this is somewhat a cultural hobby? Vick, as a black man, ought to have been a little more sensitive to the fact his "hobby" was a form of slavery when he had acres of land, millions of dollars and a promising career. I have rescued a pit bull from a shelter after she was abandoned by some idiot who might have had Vick's cute hobby also. She is a wonderful pet through rehab and a lot of TLC. Not everything is disposable, but to Vick- he disposed of his career, money, and future. Stupid, stupid man.

It's not a cultural hobby; it's what the white man left and now thw white man is saying it's crime; when he's the one that brought this "sport" from Europe. I could do a chapter for Michael in this book. You're free to do research on your own how how the Shopishire Terrier went from house pet to pit fighter. Anyone who sees someone with a pit and doesn't cross the street is foolish. I pit bull is nopt a pet. You can also research in how many counties the pit bull is banned nationwide. It's a large number. Also can you tell me how many neighbor kids are maimed or killed by the neighbors "pet" pit? It's a large enough number that most people would agree that pit bulls should be banned.

13 your an idiot....you people make it sound like michael vick is the anti-crist....its not like he killed a person....are you serious...donte stallworth just killed a man driving drunk, which offense is worse?....so he killed a couple dogs, it's not like they could have been a house pet after being breed to attack. they we're breed for entertainment then thrown aside....just like many NFL football players are....earl campbell comes to mind.
Michael Vick should be given a second chance....give the guy a break he did his time

I'm really sick of people coming down on Michael Vick which shows us once again how society is. He's a superstar everyone wanted his jersey, But he makes a mistake goes to jail and people still judge him on that, If he was a regul;ar guy poor living in the poorest part of Virginia no one would have cared. I'm by no means justifying his actions but I thought we lived in a world of second chances. I mean Pacman was involved with a man being paralized for the rest of his life and he got a second and a third chance. I wish the best for Michael I'm a true fan of his and will always be a fan of his I pray that he has gotten his stuff together just so he can sit back and laugh at all you judgemental folks. And by the way how come people pick and choose there battles, I dont see Peta standing in front of grocery stores and places that kill live stock. It's only because this man was a high figure athlete. I challenge all of the media to look into how far dog fighting goes and go after these mobsters and poor little folk that do this for a living that's a bigger problem.

Vick deserves another chance. To all those stubborn people who think otherwise, consider this: No matter how big the wrong was, he had served his punishment. Yes, his reputation has been tarnished and it will be very difficult for him to get it back, I would probably find it very interesting to see his story from his side. I also highly doubt he would mention anything about the law being unfair, because then they wouldn't publish it. For God's sake, I've seen the man play football and he is such a great player. He committed a crime but has served his punishment. I don't understand what more you could ask from him. He's probably making his book for one of the two reasons:
    1. He needs money.
    2. He wants sympathy and wants to show he's sorry.
    What's wrong with that?
