Matt Jones has cocaine and his very own web page

It's a really great web page, too. It's got his address, a nice picture, and a link that lets you schedule your very own visit with him. How many NFL players let you do that?!

Apparently, this is a service that the Washington County Sheriff's Office provides to everyone who gets arrested for possession of cocaine and marijuana.

From Jacksonville.com:

The police report said that three Fayetteville officers were walking toward an unlit parking lot when they spotted a white Toyota 4Runner parked with several people inside. The area is known for thefts and drug use, the report said.

One of the officers walked up to the passenger side rear door and saw Jones sitting inside. The report said he had in his lap a white card with a white powder and a credit card in his hand that he was using to chop up and scrape the powder.

The officer opened the door, identified himself and ordered Jones to put his hand in plain view. Jones did not initially comply and the officer pulled out his gun, keeping it at the “low ready,” the report said. Jones was then ordered out of the vehicle and complied.

[...]

Police found a corner of a plastic baggie with white powder on the floorboard where Jones was sitting, as well as the white card with powder on the seat. Police found a rolled up paper with another bag of white power on another seat. They also found a black bag with a jar containing suspected marijuana, the report said.

The report said that Jones told one of the officers that the white powder was cocaine. Six grams of the substance later tested positive for cocaine, while other tests were ordered.

Jones was booked into custody at 4:11 this morning, and for a guy who had his mugshot taken after 4 a.m., Jones looks remarkably wide awake. It's almost like he was on cocaine or something.

Jones was likely to be struggling for playing time this season, since the Jags had signed two other talented, but hugely flawed receivers in Troy Williamson and Jerry Porter. The Jags drafted Jones in the first round in 2005, and he's never caught more than 41 balls in a season.

Funny, I never really thought of him as a possession receiver.
And the jar contained "suspected" marijuana? Couldn't be too quality if the cops couldn't positively identify it. I mean, Nate Newtons product is stinkin right through the bag.

It must be a long, boring offseason. Hey, if you're salary is millions of dollars a year to play a sport for a short season and just stay in shape in the offseason, don't you think you should just buy your mansion and stay at home and work out in your home gym during the offseason? Oh well...karma works itself out in strange ways.

Josh W, at the very least he should pay someone to bring the coke to him and do it in the privacy of his own home. Less likely to get caught that way.

I heard that as soon as they got news of the story, the Bengals called Jacksonville and said that they had to have Jones for their team.

Patrick B (#6) - that's what the clubs are for. It's so easy to get whatever you want in the clubs and not get caught (unless a shoot occurs), but celebrities depend on the fact that their status will take of them. And Jones, how stupid can you be to do it in a car. But then again, celebrities can pay for designated drivers but never do because driving drunk is exciting!

There are a LOT of recreational drug user pro athletes that have enough sense and money to use their drugs whilst NOT sitting in a car in a public parking lot known by the local police to be an area of frequent drug use. This episode just tells me Jones is a moron.

people do drugs all the time whether they be famous athlete or regular citizen. i really dont care about that. my question is why would a guy who makes millions need to do coke in a car in a parking lot that is "known for thefts and drug use." how dumb do you have to be to decide to do your coke at the crack spot in a car in an empty parking lot. they probably had the dome light on in their car too, making it super obvious. i mean i know these guys arent scientists or anything but even crack heads use discretion sometimes.
