Love/Hate: New England Patriots

As we march on towards opening Sunday, Shutdown Corner touches on all 32 teams, outlining reasons to love and/or hate them. Today, the New England Patriots.

Love the Patriots:

If you like watching phenomenal talent, you don't really have a choice, do you? Maybe it's just me and the people that I know, but I don't of a whole lot of people who aren't Patriots fans who could or would ever say that the love the Patriots. And that's fine; you're allowed to hate them for cheating, or for being good, or whatever you'd like. But the fact of the matter is that 30 years from now, when you're talking about the best players you've ever seen, you're going to be talking about Randy Moss and Tom Brady. That's just the way it is. The season they had last year was legendary, and it could only happen with two legendary talents. Greatness is greatness, no matter what jersey it wears.

Hate the Patriots:

No one says you have to let Spygate go. I think we were all relieved when Spygate finally left the headlines, but that doesn't mean Spygate has to leave our consciousness entirely. Investigations and speculation are no fun. Poking the stick at Patriots fans with no provocation ... well, that might be. The stamp of the cheater, for better or worse, lasts forever. It'll be that way with Tonya Harding, Barry Bonds, the Chinese Olympic gymnasts, every cyclist ever, and the New England Patriots.

Nick Kaczur is probably not one for the kiddies to look up to. It's almost a shame that Nick Kaczur isn't a higher-profile player, because I feel like this is one of the most intriguing and overlooked stories out there. Kaczur allegedly got caught illegally buying Oxycodone, and when busted, turned snitch and wore a wire to bring down his dealer. When asked, Kaczur said he had no idea what anyone was talking about, and to my knowledge, has not spoken about it or admitting anything to this day. Maybe there's a lesson in there about how to make a story go away.

i will preface my comment with the fact that i am a pats fan,
Unwrecked, only losers would rather go 5-11 than lose the superbowl, id much rather make the playoffs and score the most points ever than be a losing team.
Also using a $ sign instead of an "s" still doesnt spell the word you wanted to.
And Brady is not a pansy, he gets hit plenty and throws touchdowns, im sure you must be a real tough person talking all that trash about professional football players from your mothers basement.

Well I must say that Pats have a weak division and with that said they shold make the playoffs now how they work and what they do is why I dislike them, they have about 2 years before they will be on the bottom like they should be! The teams in the afc they ca and do beat thme all the time do not make due to injuryies or somthing elsethey will kame it deep into post play, but who is able to stop them?? I mean an afc team? iny? den? s.d.? who can stop them ? I hate them too but who can stop them on the field in the afc on a reg?

WOw #6, your post didn't make any sense at all. Learn to spell and to form cognizant thoughts. Unwrecked I'm glad that you heard the word "Karma" and latched onto it like every other neanderthal out there. Now go out and learn it's actual definition. I just checked the record book, and look there's no ****** there at all. Crazy how you see imaginary things. You should go to a doc and get that looked at, seeing things that aren't there is a sign of mental instability.

The NFL investigated Spygate like the Chinese investigated the age of their gymnasts. In both cases, you don't cheat if it doesn't help you out.

patriots without a doubt are the best team in histroy, no other team in the salary cap era has accomplished what they have, brady is by far the best qb in histroy, from one era to the next, you can talk the smack all you want but the patriots by far have proved that they are on top because they are smart, talented and unselfish, lets not forget that that there wasn't a team out there doing the very same things that pats did, best not to call the kettle black...
since 2001 we have had three superbowl championships, two world series trophies and one nba title, all three teams considered to be among the best in history in their repspective sports - but we do emphasize with the rest of the nation as most of the other major markets don't have what it takes to bring it home, again and agian...
    bring it on chumps!

Funny how the Boston fans come slinking in. I remember the days when Boston fans would whine about NY buying championships. Last time I checked, Boston had the second highest payroll in baseball, their football team had to cheat in order to get an advantage in the second half, and their basketball team only won because Kevin McKale gave them KG for nothing. Also, it is fun to see a team with Randy Moss be called "unselfish". Finally, there was no "we" in the teams' victories. Unless you are the greatest athlete of all time, I doubt you played in the Superbowl, World Series, and NBA finals.

Unwrecked why are you such a nut sucker. "I wont go into my credentials", whats that suppose to mean, how much you like to bend over and take it from Payton. You need to get a life, you sound pathetic just hating on a great team. Oh i get it, you must be a chiefs fan, that's why your so sad, its okay, don't worry maybe you could hold Tom Brady's jock strap one day, like you've been dreaming about.

Hate the Pats because they are good, but get this into your thick heads - ALL TEAMS CUT CORNERS ONE WAY ORANOTHER! Some coaches/ex-coaches even admitted to it.The Pats were snitched out by their former (weasel) d-coordinator otherwise all teams would still be doing it - the Giants, the Colts, the Bears, the Chargers, the Cowboys - everyone. Get over it!

I love how people can say that Brady is the "greatest quarterback of all time without a doubt," when really, Peyton Manning has been trumping him on the records for quite a long time now. The records where Brady has caught Manning, Brady has done so either with great difficulty, like the most touch downs in a season where Brady had to throw hundreds more yards and a great deal more attempts than Manning, while playing all the time in every game, unlike Manning who would sit out 3rd and 4th quarters of games that were secure, and Brady still only squeaking by with one more than Manning. Manning has more consecutive starts (albeit with 2 extra seasons), more perfect QB ratings (the most in NFL history actually), pioneered the no huddle offense that has become so effective, played most of last season without half of his offensive line, and still managed the best record in the AFC-South which had 3 of its 4 teams in playoffs and can be considered the hardest set to compete in, unlike the Pats group where they get to play the Dolphins... TWICE! Please, spare us the "Brady is God," nonsense because until the Pats move into a group where they can have even the 3rd easiest schedule, which they haven't had this year (2nd easiest) or last year (the #1 easiest schedule of all teams), then you may be able to get by saying that Brady and the Pats are actually doing well and not just leeching off an easy schedule filled with cheating and crushing defeats at the end of it all.

I am not a fan of the Pats. However they are good for the game. I love the fact that when a team can plays this team it can stir such an emotion you will l just root against the Pats. The game is better with a great team. Yes they are a great team. Will I ever want them to win. No.... However I live in reality and they will win. So all the 31 teams go and spank them to nothing. I would love to see a Dolphin like performance from them this year. Then who do we write about and have to hate next season.

Hate these guys, soooo freakin much. Their first superbowl was an undeserved one. It was a fumble. Brady admitted it was a fumble. The dynasty began with luck and continued with cheating. Moss is a b!tch, always has been always will be. The second Brady chooses another target as his #1 his true colors will show.
