Love/Hate: Dallas Cowboys

As we march on towards opening Sunday, Shutdown Corner touches on all 32 teams, outlining reasons to love and/or hate them. Today, the Dallas Cowboys.

Love the Cowboys:

Tony Romo's too likable to become one of those "He can't win the big game" guys. I'm actually not sure that anyone should ever become one of those "He can't win the big game" guys, as I think in most cases that that's just a too-convenient label throw on someone at the expense of actually examining his circumstances. And seeing as the expectations for the Cowboys couldn't be higher, and Romo's already 0-for-2 in the playoff games, he seems on the verge of getting that label, if he's not already stuck with it.

I cannot quit Pacman. I almost feel bad for rooting for Pacman Jones. With the presidential race going on, I can't help but feel like, if the day ever comes where I do something important with my life (unlikely) and someone looks into my background, they'll be able to say, "Well, MJD liked Pacman Jones," and then someone will run a scathing series of television ads questioning my character. Fair enough. But before he was suspended, the guy was so good. He locked down one-half of the field and was a constant threat on punt returns. I want that player back. I'm choosing to call it a stance against wasted talent.

Hate the Cowboys:

It's never fun when the Cowboys win, and they're probably going to win a whole lot. I just can't stand all the "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS," and "HOW 'BOUT THEM COWBOYS," and "EVERYTHING'S BIGGER IN TEXAS" nonsense that you hear nonstop when the Cowboys win anything. Pride in your state is one thing, but these people take it to another level. It's like an army of Buddy Garritys, except without all the charm.

I'm ok with Dallas gloating about their 'Boyz. Being from San Antonio it's not like the Mavericks have won anything. So Dallas fans have to be 120% behind their Cowboys since their Mavs keep letting them down year after year.

hey now texas pride is one thing you don't mess with. I for one don't like the cowboys, maybe if their roster wasn't always full of exiles and drug addicts and criminals that the rest of the league doesn't want, and they won with guys who hadn't been arrested numerous times I could like them. until that time comes, I will just root for the other team. I wish the niners would get back on track. maybe by the time montana's kid is out of college. haha. and i know what everyone will say "the rest of the teams have guys like that" yeah but they don't make it a point to seek them out and give them second chances. i wouldn't be surprised if they sign Vick when he is done getting his corn-hole pumped in jail.

MJD, it's not so much that Texans have too much pride in our state, as much as it seems like nobody else has pride in their states...

It wasn't long ago that Peyton Manning had the can't win the big one label, despite his many on-field accomplishments. Dan Marion, never hoisted the Lombardy Trophy, yet he is still recognized as one of the best QB's in NFL history.
People seem to forget that Romo has started approx. 26 games, including the playoffs and what he has accomplished as an undrafted free agent from a small school should be PRAISED.
The Cowboys defense was the actual reason why Dallas lost to the Giants last year, not the offense. The Ginats controlled the ball, putting pressure on Dallas and Romo to score when thay did receive opportunities.
Romo will win his share of playoff games this year and will not suffer Dan Marino's fate, because the Lombardy Trophy and Super Bowl victory #6 is definitely in Dallas' future.

If anything, after the witch hunt Pacman survived he's become more sympathetic. Don't feel bad about rooting for him. Second chances are the American way!

Keep up the smack talk, guys. Just because your state has no reason to pride itself in anything it does doesn't mean you can degrade Texas. Wait until the Super Bowl and you'll be bowing down to Romo, Owens, and the rest of the Cowboys. Oh, and MJD... "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS."

I hope adams has a great season while the guy he helped criple is in the wheel chair or confined to a bed. Wow, he's such a great football player...and such a lousy human being...:( I guess catching a ball, tackling some other muscle bound human being, and avoiding court is what we expect of our heroes nowadays. So lets cheer for the "Boy's", and forget that this clown helped get someone maimed for life.

Wowthey deleted the comments abut Jones already? Its wrong to point out that he was responsible for a man getting shot, crippled and has continued to avoid taking responsibility for hisactions and those of his "associates"? The guy caused a man to be crippled and now everyone wants to pat him on the back and tell him he's such a good person for behaving like the rest of us. The guy needs to be in jail, not playing football.

We in Texas don't care what you think. All we want is that you stay where you are and don't move down here like so many other Yankees have.

It dosent matter what team wins the haters always hate a winner. I hate the Patriots, and truthfully I didnt even give them a second look until they started their run. Its all about someone elses team being better than yours. The Cowboys haters will be out in flocks this year, and as far as I'm concerned bring 'em on! GO COWBOYS!!!!!
As far as the few comments about Vick in here, who cares hes property of the state of Kansas. I live in the same county, Leavenworth, were hes jailed. Chief fans are loving it. This is the first time the Chiefs have had a good quarterback in town since Montana. From what I've been told, by friends that work at the pen, he's holding his own. No pooper penetration just yet. You all are quite humorous today. Anyway, I'm a Philly fan and really don't care the Cowboys but I can tell you this season will be filled with alot of excitement when these two teams meet up. I lived in Shreveport for 3 yrs and really never enjoyed visiting TX...not sure why. BTW...I'm in AK right now and just want you to know...Not everything is bigger than Texas...Alaska has been proving that since 1959. Have a great day!!

Remember the Alamo? Did the North or South win the Civil War? There is a whole lot of pride to be a Texan, ha!
Oh yeah, everything is not Bigger in Texas, maybe your mouths, but you Confederates just can not seem to ever back them up! Go Cowboys! They are a football team and have nothing to do with your worthless state.
