And
I don't think it's one of those empty threats, either. He wants a new deal, he
wants it now, and he's not a happy camper.
From a Sirius radio show, via Adam Schefter, via Pro Football Talk:
"If it doesn’t work itself out, if a contract is not presented as far as a renewal to finish my career, then I will seriously think about what my alternate options may be," said Garcia. "And it may come to not playing football anymore."
Garcia, who has one year left on his contract at a base salary of $2 million, said he has been "taken advantage of" by the team.
"I feel like when you mistreat people there comes a time when it doesn’t matter how much you are paid, it’s going to lead to some drastic decisions," Garcia said.
Again, I think this gives Jeff Garcia a lot of real leverage. Essentially, what he's saying is this:
I can quit football. And you know what happens if I do? I don't have to sweat through two-a-days to play for a team that doesn't appreciate my contributions and probalby isn't going to the Super Bowl anyway. Instead, I can spend my days laying around the house with my extremely hot wife.
You fellas, on the other hand, will be looking at sixteen weeks of Luke McCown or Chris Simms under center. How's that sound for you guys? Does 4-12 sound like fun to you?
If not, you might want to think about paying me. If you can't come up with the money, though, that's fine ... I'll just send the wife out for a can of whipped cream and a six-pack of Gatorade, and I'll get on with my retirement.
If that's not leverage, I don't know what is.

That was a no brainer. If she leaves, find a new "she" because when you're an ex-baller "shes" are a dime a dozen.

If you make $20/ hr but your job performance dictates you should be making $30, you'd bring that up to management. Everything is relative.
I can't believe how pro-owners a lot of nfl fans are. What have they ever done for you besides move your beloved teams, arrest your tax dollars and run some of the best players out of the game? With the money these ceo-types make, players should get an even bigger piece of the revenue AND guaranteed contracts, and owners should have to pony up their OWN $$ for stadiums. Here's to the end of the salary cap...
