Shutdown Corner is happy to present a Q&A with former Michigan tackle and and future Miami Dolphin, Jake Long, who Rivals has at the top of their mock draft. He is perhaps not as colorful as previous Shutdown Corner interviewee, NC State safety DaJuan Morgan, but nonetheless, I thank Jake for doing his best to answer my lame questions.
Convince
the world that you should go #1 overall (Ed. note: This now seems a bit
redundant).
I am a hardworking, intense, and dedicated player and person. I have proven to everyone the type of player I am on the field and I will give my all to whatever I do.
What's on your iPod?
I have mostly all country on my iPod. I also have rock, and some rap on it too.
Any TV shows you watch regularly?
The shows I watch on TV are, Seinfeld, King of Queens, all the ESPN channels, CMT, The Great Outdoors, and Deal or no Deal.
What's the last good movie you saw, and what's the last book you read?
The last good movie I saw was American Gangster.
What's the weirdest thing that any team has asked of you during the whole draft process?
There was nothing to crazy they asked of me.
(Ed. note: See an alternate answer from Jake Long here.)
Some guys Wonderlic scores got leaked to the press. Does that piss you off,
and do you feel like the Wonderlic test can really predict anything about your
NFL future?
It doesn't bother me about people finding out about the scores, I was happy with how I did and had nothing to be worried about. I really don’t know what the test is for, but they said I had to take it so I did.
Say Pacman Jones calls you up tomorrow, and asks you to go out and hit the club with him. What do you do?
Respectfully Decline.
(Ed. Note: I'm pretty sure he was respectfully declining to answer the question, not that he'd respectfully decline Pacman's offer.)
If you weren't a football player, what would you want to do with your life?
If I wasn't a football player, then I would want to become a police officer and a high school football coach.
Are you planning to vote? If so, care to share your choice with us, and why?
I am planning to vote, but I am not sure on who I am voting for yet.
You didn't commit a single penalty in your senior year. That's amazing. If you're drafted by the Raiders, do you think it'll be difficult to meet their minimum five-penalties-per-game quota?
Respectfully Decline.
Scouts, Inc. says that you're a "natural knee-bender." What the hell does that mean, and have you ever met anyone who did not have the natural ability to bend their knees?
Being a "natural knee-bender" to me means that you have flexibility, and you are able to bend at the knees and not the waist so that you can get more power by getting lower than your opponent.
You gave up one sack last year, and it was to Ohio State's Vernon Gholston. Does this still haunt you? When you get another crack at him in the NFL, how important is it to you to shut him out of the backfield?
I got over the sack a long time ago.
---
It's a shame I had already finished the nicknames for the AFC East, because I'd like to go back in time and add Jake "Quote Machine" Long, or Mr. Electricity.
Congratulations to Jake on being the #1 overall pick, the Dolphins on acquiring a new franchise tackle, and to the sportswriters of Miami for their new prize.

it's going to take us a couple of years, this can't be fixed in one year, by 2010 we should be ok, that is just the way it is.
if it was up to me, our first round choice would always be a lineman, O or D, without a line there is no team.
