Shutdown Corner - NFL

I've gotta give some love to Philadelphia's Main Line Animal Rescue. They once planned to put their money and energy into billboards bashing Vick, but then came up with a better idea: taking advantage of Michael Vick's(notes) reinstatement to do some good for homeless doggies.

According to Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Daily News, Main Line Animal Rescue is buying ad space in newspapers in the cities to which Vick will travel during the NFL season, pledging to donate five bags of dog food to a local animal shelter every time someone tackles Vick. They're also asking people to volunteer at local shelters on Vick game days.

The ad you see to your right ran in today's Washington Post.

I wholeheartedly support the campaign, and it sounds like the exact type of thing I'd have recommended for an animal activist group. It's going to benefit dogs in need (provided Michael Vick ever sees any game time; and I'd also add the stipulation that a Vick interception means 10 bags of dog food), it's not destructive or disruptive in any way, it doesn't make anyone look mean-spirited, and it doesn't let Vick off the hook, either.

The only way it goes bad is if Vick is hit and suffers some debilitating injury. and they end up celebrating a man's paralysis by giving a gift of dog food. That would be awkward for everybody. But that's a longshot, and I don't think anyone wants to see that happen.

Main Line Animal Resuce is using Vick to advance their cause, which they absolutely should, and they're doing so in a way that's 100% positive. Hooray for homeless doggies.

OK, while it is true Vick is a back-up, if you were to have watched any of the preseason you would realize that Vick is going to be mixed in to the quarterback fold. As for your first comment about the Main Line Animal Rescue letting dogs go hungry, you sir, are the moron.

I have a solution for Stallworth too. Every time Stallworth gets tackled, instead of getting the 10 points, you actually swerve away from hitting someone.

Daddy swag: Yeah, MIchael Vick will ride pine. Pre-season means nothing. If the Eagles want to win, they will use Vick maybe once a game.

You know what's a good show to watch? Whale Wars. Those retards take animal rights to a TERRORIST LEVEL. Seriously, this little stunt to get some free grub for homeless dogs is child's play when compared to ramming boats in the Arctic Ocean.

The only reason Vick is even on the roster is because the Eagles were nice enough to groom him back into the nfl. This is his stepping stone to the league and by next year he will be on another team as a starter. The only way he will be an impact against the skins is if Mcnabb is injured.

    Bravo. Finally animal activists are
A.) actually doing something to help, not just protesting
B.) realizing that Vick's gonna play despite their haranguing
C.) giving people who don't want to support Vick an outlet for their aggression
I also totally agree with the suggestion for 10 bags/interception. Those dogs will get a lot more food that way.

In all the ways that the animal activists could have played things out, for once they appear somewhat intelligent; thinking with their heads and not their hearts. Kudos to them for coming up with a positive way to send their message and achieve their goals. Now, if someone can donate a six-pack to me every time in the future Donte Stallworth gets tackled, I'll call it a win win all the way around.

Great idea if Vick would be on the field more than two or three gadget plays a game. They will spend a lot more in advertising money for this promotion than they could on dog food over a guy who has been relegated to a bit player on an already explosive offense not really in need of him other than injury insurance.

this is so stupid, I thought most people were past the whole "Vick the Dog Killer" thing, didn't he pay for what he's done? Now people are giving things away every time he gets hit. what happens if he breaks his leg? will they donate a thousand dollars to the shelter instead? or how about a nice kitty concussion, when Vick suffers head injuries you can buy 2 kittens for the price of one, how nice. the people who came up with this are idiots.

Look people, it's only going to get worst.
Thosw whack jobs in whale wars, earth first, apca, et al are a natural outreach of the death of christianity. Human will worship something, organized religion is on the wane in the USA so what do you worship? animals, the earth, hte ocean, etc.
I think it is a bit funny that all those "emlightened" people who would kill you over a whale don't even realize that they are as fanatical as the taliban or the Spanish Inquisitors. They just haven't written a bible for animal/earth worship yet. Once they do, here comes the robes, the prayings, the churches. What a joke.
