Shutdown Corner - NFL

You folks certainly do love your Brett Favre(notes).

Last night's Monday Night Football game between the Packers and Vikings was the most-watched program in cable history, drawing in 21.8 million viewers. That comes out to a 15.3 rating.

Perhaps even more mind-blowing? The rating in Green Bay was a 49.7. The rating in Minneapolis was 58.3. Those numbers are Super Bowl-esque.

What's it mean for you, the viewer? Well, if you think ESPN turned up the hype machine for this one, wait until you see what Fox does for the November 1st rematch at Lambeau. In the days leading up to that one, I wouldn't be surprised to see Favre guest-starring on "Fringe," single-handedly bringing down a biological terrorist group, or on "House," curing cancer with his magical stubble, and talking House into going to church every Sunday.

In related news that isn't being as widely-reported, it was also the biggest crowd we've ever had for a Monday Night live blog. Some of you were even sober.

The man puts fannies in the seats, and he glues eyes to televisions. This will not be lost on other networks.

Love how everyone was rooting for him to just retire and stay retired now they can't get enough Farve. Glad the legend came back and glad he put on that performance. For a guy soon to be 40 and doing what he does some just don't realize that those moments don't come around often.

I could have thrown 3 TDs with the proctect he received! Swap Favre & Rodgers and the Vikings win by 20.
I thought Rodgers handled that crazy situation better than Favre ever did in the "Roller Dome". Favre had his night
in comfortable suroundings, not so Nov 1!!!

I will always cheer for Brett Favre. Also, JefferyBeckmann--I want that game to be moved, too, but I don't think the flex will have started yet. Maybe they'll make an exception. The rating would be off the charts.

Clearly NBC will get the game because the NFL has the power to move that game to the nightcap as there isn't one yet... Pay attention... honestly...

The only game that might get considered that week would be Giants/Philly... This game is getting flexed to prime time... NFL loves huge numbers... It starts that week too.. how convenient...

I enjoyed the game, and Favre was spectacular. I just wish the Packer defense had a little more pass rush.
I look forward to the meeting in November, so Favre, stay healthy. It was great entertainment regardless, and i know the re-match will not disappoint.
