Eli states the obvious: He needs Plax back

In case you didn't notice on Sunday, or in any of the prior four or five weeks, Eli Manning and the Giants do not have a passing game that's going to make anyone forget the Air Coryell Chargers or the Greatest Show on Turf Rams. It's not even going to make anyone forget the Danny Kannell Giants.

Their passing game has been miserable without Plaxico Burress. Burress, of course, hasn't played since shooting himself in the leg. Literally, I mean. Not in the Titans-in-the-red-zone sense.

But Eli and just about everyone else on the Giants roster told the New York Post that they don't care how many times Plax shot himself, they'd still welcome him back. Some snippets:

Asked point blank yesterday whether he would want Burress back, Manning said: "Sure. Sure. He's a tremendous player and ... we just gotta see what happens there."

"I think he will be back," [running back Brandon] Jacobs said. "I think he should be back. I don't think he has a bad bone in his body, and I think everyone deserves a second chance."

"I think if Plaxico wants to be back here, I think he will be back," Justin Tuck said, "because I know this team, I know how we rally around people, especially our teammates. I would love to have him back. I think I speak for the majority of this football team when I say that."

"It's a fine line, the balance between mercy and justice," David Tyree said.

I gave the following numbers about the Giants with and without Plaxico on the last podcast. These are regular season numbers, and do not include the statistical mess for which Eli was responsible on Sunday:

Eli's QB rating pre-Plaxico plugging himself: 91.9
Eli's QB rating post-Plaxico plugging himself: 74.2
Giants passing yards per game pre-Plaxico plugging himself: 211
Giants passing yards per game post-Plaxico plugging himself: 183
Giants passing TDs per game pre-Plaxico plugging himself: 1.6
Giants passing TDs per game post-Plaxico plugging himself: 0.6

So yeah, it's not a huge surprise that they'd "take" him back. They absolutely need him, and shouldn't be above begging. If Plax can keep himself out of jail, I'd feel pretty confident that he'll have a job with the New York Giants.

of course eli wants burress back. the problem is whether the people that pay both eli and burress want burress back. as a eagle fan i can only hope for 1 thing or the other. either the giants trade him to and AFC team( a non contender of course, say the chiefs?) or if if has to be an NFC team( other than the eagles, for cheap of course) then send him to the lions... detroit lions that is

Am I 1st? Whoooopppppeeeeee! Finally Yes! Think of Mcnabb without Westbrook, Warner without Fitzgerald, Ben R (i ain't goin' try it) without Parker, and Flacco without whoever their top reciever is- they all would be in the same boat- actually, you could say "Warner misses Bouldin" couldn't you? Any TEAM misses a star player-ask the Cowpies how they felt with Romo out (via the Cardinals D), it would be ridiculous to think otherwise. The good teams have others to take that place and step up for the TEAM. (See Cardinals- Fitzgerald, Urban, Breaston, Edge, Hightower) So don't plaace blame on Eli or Plaxico- place it on the TEAM and those who WOULD not step up when the opportunity arouse. Gnats had a good year and were a good Champion (oh and were a WC last year), but this year is the year of the mighty fighting Birds! Go Cardinals!! Go Eaglets!!

Umm interesting huh, Don't know if they can keep him out of jail Lmao. But of course he's not any problem to his teammates, like umm lets say ohhhh TO lol, sure why not welcome back, hes a good reciever and thats really all that matters, right ??? As the world turns lol , seems , which I really don't think fans out there didn't already know this that they have trouble players too, but they are needed if they are good, he's a disruption to his team but will you please, begging on hands and knees, come back little sheba lol Oh boy, now he knows he can get away with anything now, I feel sorry for that coach, he'll be running the show next year lol

That pic is kind of strange though lol , looks like Eli is crying on his shoulder saying , man I'm sorry , really please come back next year , I'll throw you the ball most of the time next year promise, and Buress is saying , ok buddy, stop crying I"m back everything is going to be ok now lol. Let me straighten out the coach so he knows I'm back now and things are going to change lol

it's not a question of whether they want him back or not...it is a question of whether he will be in jail or not. sounds to me like he is going to be playing some prison ball with mr. vick before coming back to the g-men.

f - plaxico, they shouldnt take him back just for being at a club at 3 in the morning 2 nights before a big game. granted he was not playing anyway but pierce was and he was with him. pierce should be gone too, i think he actually got shot in the foot because he couldnt pass cover a slug (no pun intended). im a giants fan but the giants are losing some class if they coddle these scrubs, go get braylon edwards or let eli build chemistry with someone that will be around for a while.

soooooo, you lose 1 wide out and you lose a playoff game...do we REALLY want to go down that silly slope? I can see it now, in NFL front offices across the land- T.O., Buress, Boldin, etc., all telling the owners "I need an extra 50 million to play 'cause without me, you gonna lose!" Give me a break!!!!! The New York Giants TEAM TEAM TEAM lost against a better Philadelphia Eagles TEAM last week, not 2 individuals!! Period! again- GO Cardinals TEAM!! GO Eaglets TEAM!!! MAy the best win and kick the AFC best team Maximus Glutimus!!

I guess what we saw with Plax out for a few weeks was the Giants taking advantage of bad teams with bad secondaries. I hate to say it, because I think that Plax has been a complete knucklehead this season...they do need plax back. Of course, if a quality reciever like Chad Johnson became available, then screw plax and go forward from there...

CHOOOOOOOOOOOKE!! The Ginas were pretty sure that Plaxico could fade into the sunset only but a few weeks ago. Now they're begging for him to come back ?!?.. He was a locker room cancer at the beginning of this season; how bad is his attitude going to be if they grovel for his return? Chuckle ...

Of course Eli wants Plaxico back. Without him Eli is exposed and downgraded from top tier QB to average at best.
I like Eli. He's better than any QB my beloved Ravens ever had, but he gets praise mainly because of his DNA rather than his play making ability.
Don't get me wrong, I do believe the boy can play the position...just not to the level of a ummmm....SuperBowl MVP! How the hell did that happen anyway? Whatever...
Anyway. After a game like he had on Sunday I'm pretty sure he'd take Burress back RIGHT NOW...even with the season being over. I'll bet he'd sleep better at night.

Buress was some the defense had to watch. The Giants don't have any receivers that scare the defense, not even a little. You can play the run and cover man to man and not worry about it. Gilbride makes things easier with the play calling, you can pretty much call the plays at the line since the defeinse knows what you're doing anyway.
What makes people think Plax is going to change? He's been a diciplinary knightmare since day 1. Pittsburg didn't want him back, Giants got him (cheap at first) then he messed around with the ankle injury until they gave him a large contract. How many times do you need to see the sun rise in the East to look that way in the morning? Get a receiver with less "baggage" since the way Bloomberg was acting he's doing Jail time. Don't forget the 4 game suspension from the NFL Plax also has to do.

Warner lost a better receiver than Burress in Boldin and Steve Breaston jumped in and Larry Fitz stepped up - the Cards didn't look back. G-Men didn't adjust or didn't cope with Burress' loss.

The Giants have a lot of depth. I think they should trade their first round draft choice and possibly another draft choice, plus one or two solid players who could be starters on some teams (e.g., Dockery, Alford) for a very high first round draft choice, and draft the best deep threat available. They should also use a pretty high draft choice for a place kicker who can be accurate on field goals and deep on kickoffs.

Burress or not, if Eli can't run a 2 inch QB sneak, the GIANTS have a little problem. Good teams can get 10 yards in 3 downs when they really need to. Anything else is all excuses. Most people on blogs seem like they don't understand how football works.

Plaxico is not the only receiver ot there. The NFL needs tp clean up it's act and keep these thugs out. There are children who look up to these people as role models . The NFL is already sending the wrong signal when these criminals get second and third chances. Pittsburgh got rid of him and we are just fine. The Giants can do the same. For those of you wondering about pot smoking Holmes, I feel he should not have gotten another chance either. But this is another example of mixed signals being sent to innocent children. Plax, Holmes, Pacman, Tank,Vick, Henry and all the other negative influences in the NFL should all be playing prison ball!!!!!!!!!

The problem is not who is catching the passes, it is who is throwing them. Plax finds a way to hang on to the wounded ducks that Eli calls passes. Tyree has to use his helmet to stabilize the ball. Smith, Boss, Toomer, Hixon, Ward have all made great catches, just not as often. They all can run decent routes. Unless somehow Plax would have given Eli greater confidence, Plax's presence last week was not the answer. And if it is about needing confidence, then Eli is no pro. He has plenty of the right weapons, failure to exploit them is on him.
Phillip Rivers was our next Phil Simms and we gave him up for Eli. Except for 5 great games in a row last year, in the SB run, the balance of Eli's career is way too much Jekyl and Hyde for a pro team to have to make excuses for. THAT is a coaching problem. Can anybody tell my why Gilbride can't "teach" Eli to throw a spiral?

i'd rather root for a losing team than have that waste of talent back on the team. What an idiot. when are the employers going to send a message that this behavior will not be tolerated. these guys are given an opportunity that most can only dream about - if they disrespect it, move on. send him packing. let him screw up another team. this season's collapse is on his shoulders.

Why do you always feel the need to bring up the Chargers? We know you're in love with them, but here's the thing: NOBODY CARES ABOUT THOSE OVERRATED HACKS! Your boys are the AFC's version of the Dallas Cowgirls. Don't even try mentioning Eli and the Giants in the same sentence as the Chargers ("Air Coryell," or otherwise). How many Super Bowl rings do the Chargers have? None? Oh, yes, that's right, they don't have any. How many do Eli and his boys have? One? And one is greater than none, right? Of course it is! Even a Charger fan can understand that math. Here's my Super Bowl prediction: The choking Chargers will not win a Super Bowl in your lifetime... or ever.
