Eli Manning: Still a doofus, still a champion

If you spend a lot of time reading sports blogs, the odds are pretty good that in high school, you either knew or were, for lack of a better term ... kind of a dork.

I think that's why I've begun to find Eli so endearing over the past couple of weeks. Once upon a time, I wished great physical harm upon him and his father, but now, I can't help but like the little doofus. His win in Super Bowl XLII is a win for socially-awkward doofuses everywhere. God bless him.

And, as he demonstrated on Letterman last night, being a Super Bowl MVP has not strayed him a bit from his dork roots.

Click below for Part 2 of the Letterman interview.

I guess I'm missing something. He looked far from being a doofus & I'm by no means anything being close to a Eli Manning fan. He handled himself very well, in my opinion.

I loved the game and think that it what REAL football is all about, anyone who thinks otherwise is the Goofus!

Eli seems like a realy nice guy, a very lucky Q-Back, on a very lucky team.

Eli kept it light and noncontroversial. I don't know if that makes him a dork, but I think he handled himself well.

#6 - Maybe there was a little luck working for this QB and his team, but they did FAR MORE than be "lucky" in the whole post-season. To really think that is just plain idiocy. Your team's OL got owned. Accept it and you'll be a better person.
I'll take this dork over Brady, maybe even his older brother anytime. Could not have happened to a nicer guy.

#8 - Quit your cyin' and let's talk at the end of next season. If your right, and the Giants have a winning season, and I don't mean 10 & 6, I'll eat my words.

#6 your cheatriots were destroyed. That wasn't luck. What does Tom say about Burress now? How hard do you think it was to fix the dent in the turf Tom made in the 4th quarter?

Um, if that's your definition of dork, I'd hate to know what rates as "cool"--I can only wish that I'd been that articulate and confident in high school, not to mention on national TV. . . . I thought Eli did great and came across as a nice and surprisingly down-to-earth guy. I think a conversation with him would be much more enjoyable than trying to talk to his brother Peyton or Tom Brady.

It's refreshing to see that he is the same with or without the Championship and MVP.

I don't see any giants fans cryin', their team won the superbowl. Isn't that the game that decides who the best is? I'd rather be a 10-6 superbowl champion, than a 16-0 team that got "stomped out"

All eyes were on the patriots for the two weeks pryor to the game so they weren't able to cheat. They finally had to play someone on a level playing field and look at the results! That was the real patriots and the GIANTS were GIANTS!

Ya know, because a person speaks a little slower than the mile a minute yankee one typically likes to think that the person is slow thinking, but the converse of the sound of a person's speed in conversation is the sharpness of the whit. AAAAAAnd the whit was there.

As a soccer fan I loved this game!! and even more the comments in the aftermath surely is something like I am accustomed to having from soccer fans.
Maybe the Pats and Gints were not historical enemies before, however this adds to the NY/Boston sports rivalry and the New England fans will never forget this. Also the NY fans now have one more barb to throw at the Chowderheads.
The NFL should from hence and forth have the Gint and Pats play a home and away series every year, ( like the Yankees and sox), think of the revenue such an event would bring to the networks.

The New York Giants were playing probobly the best football of any team at the end of the season. All those tippy-toe sideline catches by Toomer (utterly undefendable) and clutch receptions by Plaxico, not to mention the lights out God-like play of Eli, were incredible. (and who the heck is Boss?, Smith?, Tyree?) I kept waiting for it all to end...but...YEAH!!!! I've been a life long die-hard fan since the age of five in 1956. Phil Simms has been my all time favorite Giant. It took him three to four years to get it together and Eli, who's been picked on and underrated from the start looks to be on schedule. (I predict the best Manning yet...by far!!!) Oh yeah...Spagnoulo's staying! Look out NFL...GO GIANTS !

Yeah, the NYG won by 3 points, just like the almighty pats when it didn't count. Buress gave them credit for 4 too many points. The Giants manhandled the patriots in EVERY phase of the game. Brady (and the rest of the team) got pounded. He looked like a dear in the headlights. Welcome to the real NFL New England, your 60's expansion team is beginning to come of age.
