Crazy rumor: Brett Favre is already a Viking

I'm on record as saying that I believe Brett Favre(notes) becoming a Viking is a matter of "when", and not "if". According to the latest scurrilous Favre rumors, we can throw "if" completely out the window, because the "when" has already gone down.

The rumor goes like this: Favre has already signed a contract with the Vikings, and he and the team are just waiting to announce it.

ProFootballTalk.com (surprise, surprise) is the source of the rumor, and their source is a military officer currently serving in Afghanistan. If that strikes you as odd, I promise you, you're not alone. PFT then took the info to another source, who would neither confirm or deny it.

So there it is, take it or leave it. For myself, I'm going to choose to leave it, as I don't know what the Vikings or Favre would gain by delaying a decision (other than some extended spotlight time for Favre, but even I don't want to be that cynical about him). It would seem to me that the best thing for both parties would be to wait until they're both certain, and when they are, just get the announcement over and done with as soon as possible.

And why would one of our nation's brave young men or women in Afghanistan have this news before, say, Peter King? Well, I have a theory about that, too. Hold on to your hats.

I think our military has a secret "Favre Squad" hunting down terrorists in Afghanistan, and as a modern warfare tactic, they constantly pelt them every day with news and rumors of Brett Favre's return to the NFL. It's a form of psychological torture designed to make terrorists give themselves up out of sheer, overwhelming annoyance. Ideally, we'd see terrorists waving white flags, throwing down their guns and turning themselves into U.S. forces while crying, "WHY? WHY? Why cannot this Favre man make up his mind? Does he know how annoying he is? Allah, PLEASE, make this man stop."

Ruined his legacy? He is on the cover of Madden 2009 for his performance in 2008. Until he was injured, the Jets were the leading contender in the AFC to go to the Super Bowl with back to back road wins including defeating the undefeated Titans on the road. Please tell me how he ruined his legacy? Bottom line is that the Vikings with Favre will be the best team in the NFC - they are stocked at every position. The team won 10 games and lost to Philadelphia in the playoffs last year with a QB that couldn't start for a majority of Division 1 college teams. Legacy? Look in the mirror and ask yourself....Where is my legacy.

Could you imagine a QB that can read defenses and throw a slant pattern? Rice and Harvin may have outrageous numbers if Farve can play. Then watch out for the draw play with Adrian Peterson. Gotta like the possibilities.

Ruined legacy? C'mon he is a football player. he plays football thats what he does. Now the pack told him they were going with Rodgers and that the guy who started every game for for 16 seasons was told he would have to try out for his job. Now he holds the record for longest qb streak of continuous games started, the statistic that is based only on the individual and not other players performance. Now after a 13-3 record and yes a bad play by favre they decide well rather then staying with the guy who we know will show up and suit up every game and play to win, even the day after his father died they decided to go with the guy who who was on IR as a back up and unsure of his potential. I am a long time Pack fan, but they slapped one of the best in face. He decided to retire and planned to go elsewhere be cause he plays football. His choice. He is a winner and if anyone doubts his intentions or abilities then you are blind and not a real football fan. if he lands with the vikings watch out. they will be in the top 3 of teams in the NFC. He went to the jets where he knew nothing of the offense and almost won the division, led it most of the season. He knows the vikes O and they will be dominent. You give Brett a solid running games and they will win. His mistakes come when they cant run the ball and others dont perform and he takes it on his shoulders to win! Don't hate for being one of the best that shows up everyday to play! If you hate fvare then as I said how can you be a real football fan?!?!

Slow Down Joseph. Stocked at every position? Really. Look at their wideouts . Sidney Rice? Bobby Wade?? Aundrae Allison??? The rookie Percy Harvin better come through big time. TE's Shiancoe, Kleinsasser and Mills. 3 guys I never heard of until I looked at their depth chart. Yes Favre is a significant upgrade and with him the Viks are a real contender I'm just debating your atatement " stocked at every position"

Any boob who questions Favre's legacy doesn't know anything about the history of the NFL, or sports in general. Take a look at just about every sports legend and you will see the same pattern at retirement. They all try to hang on for too long, and you probably would too if you had talent. It doesn't matter what happens now, Favre has earned his legend status and that will never change unless he goes OJ on us.

Agreed, lots of unproven talent as of yet, but give Kleinsasser his due...he's a beast, just underutilized. Proven, however? Heck ya!

Dewey, I know nothing about him and perhaps you're right. I just have one question. If he's such a "beast" why is he listed 2nd on the Viks own depth chart?
As for Brett I am and always will be a fan. Someday when he does finally retire then Brett and the Packers will put this behind them.

Do you guys know what legacy is????
It means what someone is remembered for, not any records, not any super bowls, but what people remember him for.
And Farve has blown it. His legacy has gone down the toilet. Signing with the Vikings will seal the deal, even the biggest Farve fans will admit he has gone crazy. It's not about football anymore, ITS ALL ABOUT FARVE, and that is the legacy is will be remember for.
The fans are the ones that remember a players legacy, not stats, not reporters, BUT FANS
Wait till he comes to Green Bay in a Viking uniform and will see his legacy.

We in Wisconsin welcome Favre as a bi queen i mean viking...As for Brett being a great qb yes he WAS! I personaly thank him for the division conference and Superbowl titles. Was Bret the best qb in GB'S history ? Simple the answer is no Bart beat Brett in so many categories including titles was loyal and honest to himself and the team.
The word integrity seems to have dissipated in so many things its a shame that here in wisconsin Bretts legacy is now one of middle finger status and BRETT i know you read these things take a good look at the D we cant wait for your homecoming bring lots of nerve block and pain killers your going to need them post game...
And people please stop using the madden video game as a benchmark in anything as far as pro football is concerned that is both childish and absurd. (sorry JM go find Summerall at the old ppls home and share a brat!~)

Bret is coming, and the team will play up to his standered. Instead of playing down to the other qb leaders that have been running the team. The whole team will be better, because they will not be able to put it on the qb for not knowing how to do his job. Coaches will need to get there act together too! Brett can kill to birds with one stone. Show Green Bay he can still play and the same time getting Minn. there first Supper bowl! Go Vikes! Look for AP over the right side this year!Going Going Gone!

Lets be honest people, Brett Favre is past his playing days. Its somewhat painful and embarassing to watch this train wreck continue on. I don't know whether his motivation is money, desire for spotlight, or a genuine denial of his true age, but he's going to end up taking the Vikings season with him. Although, as a Texans fan, I am happy that at least we were able to steal a fourth round pick from the Viks for the Rosencopter. This year someone else can enjoy watching Sage ruin their teams' season.
