Shutdown Corner - NFL

I always struggle trying to decide what makes a sufficient apology. Is a call enough? Should I write a note? Send flowers? A singing telegram, maybe? I never know what act of contrition fits the crime.

But at least I've got this one figured out now, because Comcast has set the precedent: If I ever accidentally show your children hardcore pornography, I will follow Comcast's lead and generously offer you $10.

That's what Comcast is doing for customers in the Tucson area who unfortunately saw some guy's junk during the Super Bowl broadcast.

"We can't undo what happened, but we remain deeply sorry for the impact this situation has had on our customers," Comcast Tucson corporate affairs manager Kelle Maslyn said in a statement Monday. "To that end, we will be issuing a $10 credit to any Comcast video customer in Tucson who was impacted. While this credit won't change what happened, we hope that it will demonstrate to our customers, and to the Tucson community, how seriously we are taking this situation."

Maslyn said Comcast is "continuing with our investigation into what we believe may have been an isolated, malicious act, and will aggressively pursue all leads until we come to resolution."

Yeah, a 10-spot should permanently scrub that image from your kids' minds. All is forgiven!

Gracias, Deadspin.

Why does it take the Super Bowl to draw out these disgruntled cranks from within the labyrinth of the web media? If they were really mad we'd get a surprise once or twice a night like say in the middle of Grey's Anatomy or the Lehrer News Hour. I could retire a decade earlier.

That should help everyone that will then get a price hike next month.
Ever since Comcast bought adelphia in my area 2 years ago, my rates have gone up 35%, and I had to send an email telling the higher ups, that I will be getting satellite after they attempted a 60% rate hike 3 months ago.
    Comcast = Greed

So now I wonder how many people are going to say they were affected and claim the $10... who didn't actually see the porn? Should be interesting.

Yapoo you are right about the rate hikes. They just raised my rates $20 without any explanation whatsoever and I anticipate many more. Plus their customer service really stinks!

I'd rather have them spend the $10 per person on trying and convicting the SOB that was responsible. The idea of somebody introducing innocent kids who were watching the superbowl to porn is tragically unfunny. Anybody who thinks it is funny is a twisted waste of humanity.
Keep your ten bucks. It's an insult.

I dumped Comcast a long time ago when I found out they were controlling the speed of my computer. When I called them on it, low and behold they could crank up the speed to what it used to be for more money.

in all seriousness..when they find this "criminal"..they should charge him with 80,000 counts of sexual misconduct . of which 20-30 k should be considered counts of "with a minor". .. ten dollars is a joke..
there should be a civil suit filed. WHAT IRKS ME the most is that these people are terrorizing our freedoms each and every time they pull these stunts. its crap like this that will lead us into ..government controlled programming and govt. controlled media..just one more step toward socialism.

fcc is by guidelines and suggestions. and fines and penalties after the fact..just wait until the goverment controls the stations before during and after..and becomes an omni-present entity deciding how and when we might be entertained. can you say peoples republic of china ?
...ok i'm sorry for the lecture. i'm just a freedom & liberty dude..but i know enough to know that freedom doesnt or shouldnt include allowing anyone showing porn to my children. and think that its ok. .
