Shutdown Corner - NFL

For a guy who plowed his truck into a palm tree sometime around 5:15 a.m., Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder sure isn't in very much trouble. He'll be charged with a couple of misdemeanors, and then he can go right back to being best known as part of a 1-15 team..

Initially, Crowder was contacted by WFOR-4, the CBS affiliate in Miami, and told them that he loaned the truck to a friend, and that friend, evidently, wished death upon all palm trees.

When contacted by police, though, Crowder admitted that he was driving the truck, he hit the palm tree, and then he left the scene (including the firearm in the truck) because he didn't want to wait around in the rain.

Again: sometime around 5:15 a.m., veering way off the road, a palm tree mowed down at the base, a gun in the car, changing stories, leaving the scene of the accident with no better excuse than precipitation, and leaving a firearm unattended near the Florida turnpike at around 5:15 a.m.

And he's looking at a grand total of two charges ... one, careless driving (ya think?) and the other, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.

Not bad, Channing Crowder. Not bad at all.
