The
New York Jets were a tiny bit bitter about their Monday night loss to the Miami
Dolphins, in which the Dolphins used their Wildcat offense to repeatedly jam the
football down the Jets' collective gullet. Bart Scott(notes) called it a
"gimmick" offense and Calvin Pace(notes) called it "nonsense."
I call that frustrated whining. Maybe it's unconventional (though even that's a stretch, since a lot of teams run it now, and the Dolphins are now in year two of their Wildcat era), but it's not like it was a surprise.
There's plenty of Wildcat on tape, the Jets absolutely knew it was coming and they had plenty of time to prepare to stop it. If they couldn't, it's not because they were fooled; it's because they weren't good enough. It's not like the Dolphins were hiding the football under their shirt or something.
Anyway, a couple of Dolphins addressed the Jets' whining, and in my opinion, did so quite effectively. First, Channing Crowder(notes):
"Nonsense? I love nonsense. They say gimmick? Gimmick this, gimmick that. We've won games with the wildcat. They ran two fake punts. So if you're going to say gimmicks, those are real gimmicks.
"Wildcat is an offensive formation, they run it for two years. They have thousands of plays on film about it. Go stop it. Shut up about all the junk-talking and whatever they're talking about they ain't going to give us no credit. We'll see them in three more weeks [Nov. 1]. We've got to play them again, so the hell with them."
Point, Channing Crowder. Up next, Ronnie Brown(notes):
"He has his own opinion and the biggest comment on that is we're all afraid of what we do not understand. I guess that's the situation there. [...] "Coming into the game we're watching how they blitz and we were like, 'OK, we'll just sit back and play football then, and let's see who has the tougher 11 people on the field.' "
Nicely done, Mr. Brown.
Say what you want about the Wildcat offense, but if you're playing defense against it, I promise you, if you step up to the line of scrimmage and beat the man in front of you, you can stop it. If you don't, you won't. And then, if you're the Jets, I guess you'll cry about it.

I have to bring up a few things about this wildcat...
Last year the dolphins ran this and made the playoffs.. They beat what 2 winning teams? and they both didn't make the playoffs..
They got beat when they played a winning team in the playoffs.
This year they have lost to the Colts , SD , and Atlanta... who are all winning teams?
They have beaten the bills? and the jets... Two teams that no one in the league fears..
When the wildcat helps you beating legit teams then it is something great.. Untill then it is a gimmick and will never work 100% in the NFL...
Peace
