Shutdown Corner - NFL

Everyone goes through a stage in their life where they rebel against things for no real reason. They want to test authority figures, they want to see what they can get away with and they want to prove their independence. Eventually, most people outgrow this and then turn into adults who make sensible decisions.

Chad Ochocinco isn’t quite there yet.

Chad already declared that he wanted to Tweet (post to Twitter) during NFL games, and the NFL already gave him a very firm “no.” But he says he plans on doing it anyway. Listen closely to this video, courtesy of SportsFanLive.

In case you didn’t catch that, the money quote, I believe, is this:

"There's a lot of things they don't want me to do. I do it anyway. They know that. I don't know why they even fussing about it. ... When I say I'm going to do something, I'm going to do it, regardless of what they say."

Fight the power, Ocho.

I don’t know what the NFL stands to gain with their anti-Twitter rules, and in a perfect world, we could get honest, relevant and insightful Tweets from athletes and/or coaches during games. That would be fun. I could see some value in that, for both the league and the fan.

But really, what are we talking about here? Have you seen Chad Johnson’s Twitter feed? We’re talking about missing out on “damn damn” and “child please” 892 times a day. Chad Ochocinco being unable to Tweet for three hours on a weekend is, in my opinion, a loss America can live with.

Normally, I support the guys who like to buck the system, but unfortunately, I don’t see a lot of good coming from it in this particular instance. Somehow, I’ve ended up siding against both the NFL and Chad Johnson(notes).

You would think that with all of the compelling issues in the world, such as poverty, genocide, political oppression, etc., that 85 could have picked a better issue on which to draw a line in the sand.

The NFL is way too uptight. I agree with you on this one. I'm somehow siding against both Chad and the NFL. Chad is a rebel without a cause or a clue. I follow him on Twitter and it's apparent he is a man starving for attention. And, like a toddler, he doesn't really care whether it's positive or negative attention.
I used to be a big fan of Chad Johnson. As a Bengals fan from before he was born, I've given him chance after chance. At least this year he wants to be in Cincinnati. But, it seems he's determined to do anything he can to draw attention to himself, including something as meaningless as posting Tweets during a game.

MJD- Your backing of the guys who like to buck the system is one of the reasons that these idiots do what they do. You possibly think(?) that their stupidity will be worth a few inches of ink so that you can keep getting paid to write the ignorant articles for which you are so proud of. Jerks like you perpetuate the stupidity - do you feel proud of yourself when you cash your paycheck knowing you have added to the problems in this country? You and your articles offer nothing of any redeming value. Do everyone a favor and put your keyboard down and get a real job.

yup clicked the link, and unbelievably only one "child please" so far, but he's currently bickering back and forth with haters as we speak. umm yeah that's where his mind needs to be during games. coach lewis should just smash his cell phone and be done with it.

When my dog acts like a pain in the azz, I ignore him and he settles down. Perhaps the same tactic would work with the little boy who won't stay out of the camera.

Too funny, Chad throws a few bread crumbs on the water, and watches the little fish grab them. Someone needs to know when they have been rickrolled.

Perhaps instead of 'tweeting' Chad could pay attention to the game. He might actually learn something, like sportsmanship and what it means to be a 'team' player--not a selfish toad.
He spends more time watching himself on the jumbo-tron and looks around to make sure everyone is watching his every move. Hopefully he will someday learn to spell T E A M--notice there is no "I". I hope his head can still fit into his helmet.

Here we go again!!!. More useless reporting from MJD working the "Stupid Reporting' angle again! A slow day?? I'd say so.. Childish Chad should focus on his job. Hell, if you or I did it during work, we'd be fired!! Let him rot on the bench, and use him for decoy,,, Then dump his dumb Ass!!!
Why don't you report on why our brloved Bengals are predicted to only have 6 wins this year and what, if anything, the team is doing about it??
If you really wanna be useful, just stop posting stupid articles!!!

The NFL just needs to take a stand and make the fine for tweeting during a game an absurd over the top amount. You think he is going to be defiant at the tune of 100,000 a pop and a four game suspension? No. The NFL needs to grow a pair and stand up to this clown. I dont know how he gets half the attention he gets anyways. Most of the seasons he has played he has been the second best reciever on his own team. This guy means nothing to the nfl or humanity. Its too bad he cant get himself a significant other like Mcnair or Gatti. Im sure the whole world would just be devestated by the loss.

I say if he is caught tweeting during a football game after being advised not to they should make an example out of his dumb a$$ and fire his a$$ on the spot and show it on the stadium big screen . this guy is a douche bag more into tweeting than playing football which he is payed very well to do. YOUR FIRED DOUCHEBAG NOW YOU HAVE ALL THE TIME YOU WANT TO TWEET!

Doing and saying stupid things is the only way Chad can get himself in front of the camera . He has no real talent , & with the exception of Palmer , Cincinatti has no talent . I wonder if Chad can say sideline , bench him coach !

The anti-Twitter rules are simple. You're being paid millions of dollars to play a game. Show time is 3 hours per week. Don't screw around on the internet during those three hours. I don't understand what about that you don't understand.

If the press would ignore the childish behavior of people like Chad and not print every word that comes out of their mouths and printed relevent articles then we wouldn't have articles such as this.
Chad in particular needs to grow up and his tantrums and childish actions prove this each and every year he has been a professional athlete.

When are owners and front office personnell going to wise up and realise these characters are not worth the hassle they bring to your franchise. Athletes like Chad Ochowhatever may have the athletic skills and abilities to excell on the field or court but they do not have the mentallity to handle everday life let alone celebrity and money that comes with it. So wise up owners and stop subjecting your consumers to the likes of Ochowhatever, Plax, Milton Bradley, Iverson, TO. I pay money to watch professional athletes play at the highest level if I wanted to see somebody tweet I'd hang with my teenagers.
