Shutdown Corner - NFL

Well, this is a first. Chad Ochocinco, wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, has his own iPhone app, the "Chad Ochocinco Experience." And when I say it's his own, that's exactly what I mean: He created it (with the help of teammate Jordan Palmer(notes); more on that in a minute), he'll profit from it and it revolves around him.

It lets fans with iPhones enjoy all the requisite stats, schedules and highlights you would expect, but users can also submit questions for Chad, follow his Twitter account, locate him instantly on a map, see what music he's listening to and see pictures of his family. It's a little weird.

It occurred to me that this is one of those things where, if you were able to talk to someone who lived in 1875, there's just no way you could explain this in a way that would make one tiny bit of sense. And then I thought, I started blogging in 2003, and at the time, I'm not sure this would've made much sense to me, either. But here we are.

On one hand, I think it's awesome that Chad has decided to connect with his fans so directly and openly. As a fan, you have never, ever had as much access to a celebrity athlete as you have to Chad Ochocinco(notes) right now. He's taking advantage of the technology that's out there to connect with fans. That's a pretty great thing.

On the other hand, I don't think I've ever known of anyone who wanted and needed attention the way Chad does. But hey, it's his life, not mine, and if it makes him happy, bless him.

The app was created by Rock Software, a company owned by Jordan Palmer, backup Bengals quarterback and younger brother of Carson Palmer(notes). His company also created the "RunPee" app, which tells you the best time to go pee when watching a movie at the theater (for safety purposes, please take Jeff Reed with you). The app even tells you what happened while you were gone.

Chad's app is $4.99, which is on the pricey side for an iPhone app. No one can say it isn't unique, though.

lots of basketball players already have iphone apps. this is not unique in anyway. just a story read through the assumptions that ocho cinco's set out for himself.

What a loser, not even relevant enough for a stalker, so he makes a stalker-app to encourage such behavior.

He is putting up numbers this year...can't take that away from him...plus the Bengals are 3-0 in the division so they have early tiebreaks...I hate the Steelers too by the way. They can't win without Polomolu and thats a fact. Jared Allen is going to get after Big Ben this weekend. That was for brian b, douche bag.

"wanted and needed attention the way Chad does.."
En Route to 1250+ yards, 3 TDs already (he's never been a big TD guy), coming off a 100 yard game.
He doesn't need attention, you do...
