Shutdown Corner - NFL

The Bengals have said that they won't trade Chad Johnson, but of course, the Bengals also once said that they're concerned about issues of character on the team, so you'll have to forgive me if I'm not inclined to take the Bengals at their word.

And, as is the case with every other player who's also been both famous and available, Dan Snyder is said to be interested in acquiring Johnson. From Jason La Canfora in today's Washington Post:

Numerous league sources, including some with direct knowledge of conversations between Snyder, Cerrato and recent head coaching candidates, have affirmed that the Redskins have interest in trading for Cincinnati wide receiver Chad Johnson, with two league sources saying Johnson is eager to land a hefty new contract from Washington.

Acquiring an elite receiver is Snyder's top priority, league sources said. The Bengals have said they have no intention of trading Johnson, but his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is working quietly to broker a deal, the sources said.

It hasn't worked out real well for teams that have cut ties with star receivers in the past (see the post-Moss Raiders or the post-Owens Eagles for examples). But a lack of locker room chemistry is killing the Bengals, and if they could fleece anyone out of enough assets to make a deal worthwhile, you'd have to think it would be Snyder and the Redskins.

What does new head coach Jim Zorn think of acquiring Chad Johnson? It doesn't matter. Not even a little bit.

How do you all like the sound of chad johnson. ocho cinco baby. we need a reciever taller than six feet that can actually catch the ball, that would be my boy chad. He most likely wont complain in washington cause we would pay him a crap load.

someone needs to take a drug test if they think chad is going to leave the bengals. too much of a cap hit; plus, you cannot put even one name to the rumors he is leaving, but two big names (head coach and owner) say he is staying put. the post article said "two league sources" say chad wants out, which yahoo! conveniently turned into "multiple," and "several." nice try. not happening.

No matter what team he plays for, he is toxic to team chemistry. He is self centered, self absorbed and a me first type of guy and I hope he has to stay put in Bengals hell!

This proves that billionaires should not be gm's. mr ocho cinco is a virus. that is a new version of t.o. he will destroy that locker room. they have a young talented team in washington and he will not improve this. quote me on this: in two years from now he will be yelling at campbell on the sideline about getting the ball. he celebrations used to be funny and exciting. now they have gotten to be annoying. sometimes costing the team 15 yards in penalties. snyder do you really want this prob.

this is the problem you are having is Chad johnson comes to the skins is there enough balls to go around between him Moss,Randel-El and Cooley and Chad operates between the hash and while you are installing the west coast offense can he run the slant pattern is that his strength and at 6;1 is he tall enough for the slant here is something else how is he gonna handle when his catches go down that is something else to take into effect can he deal with 75 catches a year instead of 95 catches a year that is the big question also what are the bengals asking for him probably 2 second round picks that is too much say 2nd and 5th round that is acceptable.

i say santana moss and a 3rd round pick. bengals still get a quality reciever with a nice pick. with the redskins history, it doesn't look like dan snyder cares to give away draft picks.
    go skins.
