Shutdown Corner - NFL

Chad Johnson's been asked again and again if he wants to be traded from the Bengals, and his responses have been sort of wishy-washy and non-committal, if not also completely wacky.

But that gray area that existed before is now gone. After Carson Palmer said this morning that Chad Johnson would be in camp "when he had to," Johnson called up ESPN's John Clayton and let him know that that wasn't the case.

"I want to make this very clear. I don't know where he got that. I made no assertion to Carson that I would do that. Nothing has changed from what I've been saying for three months that I don't want to play for the Bengals. I want to be traded before the draft, and if that doesn't happen, I want to be traded as soon as possible. I don't intend on reporting to anything.''

Yeah, I'd say that's pretty clear. Denis Lemieux wasn't that adamant about being traded in Slap Shot (naughty language alert).

I don't blame Chad Johnson for all the problems with the Bengals, but still, I don't see how they could possibly bring him back. The guy's a distraction when he's perfectly happy. Having him on the roster when he's this cheesed off would be absolutely disastrous. By Week 10, he'll be making Terrell Owens look like Rudy Reuttiger by comparison.

He and Marvin Lewis have a relationship that's beyond repair, and honestly, I don't blame either of them. Chad Johnson is perfectly justified in being frustrated with Marvin Lewis, and Marvin Lewis is perfectly justified in being frustrated with Chad Johnson.

The Bengals should get rid of them both as soon as possible, and make sure the EA Sports people have enough time to get Chad's goofy celebrations moved over to another team.

Chad is leaving the bengals, but what if you take him and then next year he doesn't want to play for you?

I think the eagles and Bengals need to talk a trade between Chad Johnson and Lito Sheppard. That trade would make sense!!!!

Somebody put some tape on Chad's mouth, please. At least until he retires. He is so damn whiny. And he is just damaging his relationship with Palmer. Palmer is no T. Jackson now - C'mon he's a great qb with the potential to be a top 10 qb in the league. If I was Palmer, I'd just throw the ball a little off, a little over his head, a little at his helmet when he's running up the field to screw with Johnson - all in fun but still with some resentment.

Miami will end up with him. Lord knows they need a wide out and with no other stars on that team anymore, he'll go back to being the center of attention.

What is it with this team that once you become its all-time leading receiver you become a cancer? First Carl Pickens, now Chad. Gotta ditch him. Can't have him "TO" the season a la Philly.

Ok the Cowboys want a reciever and a corner in the draft right? Fine send the Bengals one of your two first rounders for Chad, they'll do back flips in Cincy and Dallas fans can cheer until Chad and TO decide there's not enough room for both to dance on the star at mid field. Then Dallas can send the third rounder that Tennessee wants (where are they gettin their stuff and can I have some please) for Pacman to the Eagles along with a third rounder next year for Sheppard. Then draft Malcom Kelly with their other first round pick. Then all of the crybabies will be in Dallas with Michael Irvin to coddle them and the other teams will get good value in return

85 - pay back your signing bonus. Then maybe a trade. Otherwise go ahead and sit. Sit next year too. and the following year. This has drew r written all over it. Force a trade - renegotiate - more $$ - don't care about your teammates. Don't let the ploy work. See how Chad likes it as he loses all those millions.

CHAD, I hope your reading this, because athletes like you are whats wrong with sports today!!!!! You complain about nobody having your back when all you do is show your teammates up with your comments and your actions. I hope cincy fines your butt ,as much as they can and if you report, put your butt on the practice squad. You just don`t get it, you play a team sport and your a self serving crybaby who needs his toy taken away. Cincy, please don`t trade him this year, sit his butt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cincinnati should trade chad to dallas for their first and a third rounder. Draft sedrick ellis with the 9th pick in the draft. Using the 22nd pick in the draft a receiver like kelly. that way the bengals will have three third rounders and 2 first rounder. that will be enough picks to address most of our needs. it will be an added bonus to see chad and TO on the same team and all the controversy they create. Marvin can just point and laugh at OCHO stinko for being an idiot.

The broncos should trade for Brandon Stokley and Dre Bly that would make sense considering the bengals have only one good db and the broncos just got rid of Javon Walker.

johnson is a virus. he'll poison any team he end's up with. he will make a bad team worse( as if he would go to one anyway) and none of the contenders really need him.

I am sorry that the individual doesn't like chad johnson.I personally would like to see chad on the raiders! Having chad johnson to throw to would make any 300lb Quarterback happy.Jemarcus is praying for Al to pick-up chad.I know Lane Kiffin would just love that type of player.

Chad Johnson does need to leave Cincinnati, but I don't know if it will be this year. If Chad punks out and does not play this season then the bengals are only out around 3 million dollars (they already have paid 8.5 million+ in up front money that counts against the cap). Next year it wouldn't be that much. If they can get a 2nd round and maybe some money to cover the costs then I say let him walk. Or if they get a Lito Shepard quality player then I'm all for it. Marvin Lewis needs to be gone from the Cincinnati Bengals as well. He does not have the leadership ability any longer to keep this team together. His draft choices (which aren't all his fault) have been lacking the past few years. He needs to move on and become a coordinator again and let someone who has a strong will take over the team. The owner, Mike Brown, needs to butt out and hire a GM and let's get back to our winning ways.......
