Braylon Edwards is mad at Rich Rodriguez

It seems like Braylon Edwards is spending more time at ESPN these days than Trey Wingo. He did an ESPN.com chat, he was on Mike Tirico's radio show, he was on an ESPN.com podcast with Jeremy Green ... I think he's been sleeping in the boiler room of the Bristol studios. Personally, I didn't feel like Braylon's appearance on Costas Now had him headed for media stardom, but then again, ESPN and I have always had different views on these things.

Anyway, in both Braylon's chat and his appearance on Tirico's radio show, he indicated some displeasure with Rich Rodriguez, the new head coach at his alma mater.

“I’m glad you gave me a Go Blue question because Rich Rod gave the No. 1 jersey to an incoming freshman DB and the No. 1 jersey has never been worn by anybody outside of a wide receiver,” Edwards said. “It dates back to Anthony Carter, (Greg) McMurtry, Tyrone Butterfield, Derrick Alexander, David Terrell, and yours truly. So I’m going to have a talk with him about that the next time I see him.”

When is that call coming, Edwards was asked?

“He’s getting that call soon -- very soon. Exactly, we have a jersey scholarship fund for this whole deal. What is he thinking?”

My guess is that Rodriguez was simply unaware of the tradition (so was I, actually), and that he'll strip the number off the defensive back in short order. I don't know if he'll give it to a wide receiver, though, as Rodriguez, to this point in his career, has seen receivers as little more than decorative ornaments for an offense.

Rich Rod might be a lot of things, but he does honor the traditions of the program he's running. At least until he blows a game in which he was favored by 28 points and in which a win would've given him a shot at the national championship, and then he leaves the program at the earliest opportunity, anyway.

He's from Michigan. What do you expect him to do but whine? He'll be doing it until they bring in the next bum of a coach expected to be able to outrecruit and actually beat The Ohio State University. Note to Braylon, ain't gonna happen. Get used to it.

RichRod gave it to a DB to honor the truest product of his coaching career: Pacman Jones.

It's not just that RichRod doesn't appreciate wide receivers; he doesn't appreciate the passing game at all. If he had had a real passing game, the Pitt outcome might have been different. Let's face it, if RichRod does strip the number from a DB, he'll try to figure out some way to auction assignment of the number among boosters, preferably with him pocketing the dough. I'm not a WVU fan, but I just can't wait to see the cornholing he has coming to him for breaking his contract. Let's hope it is long and Deliverance-style.

Who cares about the tradition, it's not like it's going to make "thatteamthatshallnotbenamed" any better. They still won't be able to beat The Ohio State University.
