Yesterday
was not a great day for Braylon Edwards(notes). He failed to get his hands on the ball
even one time, as the Cleveland Browns lost an overtime heartbreaker to the
rival Cincinnati Bengals.
Later that night, though, Braylon did allegedly get his hands on a fellow named Edward Givens. The name is blacked out from the police report, but multiple sources told Cleveland.com that Edwards is the suspect. Here's the story that Givens, a promoter of some kind with an organization called Eighty81, told police.
"After the club closed, I was outside greeting and saying goodbye to people. Braylon comes up and started saying things, degrading me. He said if it wasn't for LeBron or the Four Horsemen, I wouldn't have what I have, nor would I be able to get girls. Everyone knows Braylon has a problem with LeBron. So I had to speak up for myself. The conversation started to escalate. As some of his teammates started to pull him back, he punched me. I have a black eye and a cut. I'm not a violent guy.
"As long as I've known Braylon, I've allowed him and his friends to come into our events free of charge. Whatever jealousy he has with LeBron, he felt he needed to take it out on me."
The man then went to a local hospital for a black eye, a cut and a headache. Given Braylon's hands of stone, it's a miracle that he doesn't have a fractured skull. Zing.
Cheap jokes aside, that's just one guy's story, so be careful how much stock you put in it. The jabs about LeBron make it seem even more petty and vindictive, so who knows what kind of an agenda this guy has. I'm not saying it's true, I'm not saying it's not, I'm just saying that it's just one guy's story. Braylon likely has a completely different view of things.
What is true, though, is that Braylon had a rough day at work. Derek Anderson(notes) threw in his direction five times, but Braylon failed to record even one catch. Seven other Browns caught passes, including Mohamed Massaquoi's(notes) eight for 148 yards.
As for Braylon possibly being jealous of LeBron ... well, get in line, Braylon. With the possible exception of Kobe Bryant, we're all jealous of LeBron. And we call caught just as many passes against the Bengals yesterday.
