Brady Quinn is an alleged gay basher

A 9-1-1 call was made on New Year's Day by a man who alleged that Brady Quinn and his pals were shouting hate speech at a group of homosexual men. Here's the audio of that call, from Cleveland.com.

boomp3.com
Oh, dear. That's not good. I know my good friend Derek Anderson would never do something like that.

If you want to defend Brady Quinn, that's fine. I know there are (for some reason) a lot of Quinn fans out there. If you find it suspicious that it's February 13th and we're just now hearing about a January 1st incident, fine. If you choose not to believe the caller, that's fine, too.

But what I don't want to hear is, "Oh, it's just a word. It's no big deal to call the guy a name."

Yes, it is just a word, but unfortunately, that particular word is a big deal. Words have meaning. Words can be used to hurt people. If you're a straight (I presume), attractive, rich, white male like Brady Quinn, you'll probably never be able to understand what it's like to be on the receiving end of one of those hurtful words, but that doesn't make it okay to use them.

It's hate speech. It's discriminatory. It's homophobic. It's an effort to intimidate, insult, hurt, and degrade another human being. It's not acceptable.

I'm just hoping it's not true. I don't know why the caller would make it up (and, honestly, the caller seems to go out of his way to be fair to Quinn when talking to Cleveland.com), but for the sake of Brady Quinn, the Cleveland Browns, the NFL, and humanity, I hope he did.

I may not agree with it, but he has a right to feel or say anything he wants to anybody. He might not like gays, you may not like Iranians, and I might not like blacks. It's OUR RIGHT. I guarantee you that a majority of football fans would support him and share that opinion, and it's OK.

OH...and before you start telling me that I don't know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of RACIST or bigoted comments, that would be incorrect. I'm CUBAN and I''ve had people call me the typical spanish inflammatory names, and have had others save very negative and hateful things about spanish people, not realizing that I"m spanish. That does'nt change a thing. We are all entitled to our opinion. If he broke some team or league conduct rules, then he should be punished.

Yeah he shouldn't be punished by the league. The only thing this proves is that Brady Quinn is an immature homophobe, who obviously isn't ready to start if he is still resorting to high school antics off the field.

Americans do not have "the right" to harass other people in a public place. If he wants to think it, yes, that's his right. But it's not his right to yell "f----t" at people who weren't bothering him, nor would it be my right to follow you around all day, making slurs about Cubans.

There are words that cannot be used in certain situations. Words that when uttered could result in bodily harm to one or more individuals.
The most well known example is yelling fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire. Another is shouting you dumb-*&^%*&^ in a redneck bar which might get you killed in a big hurry.
The best thing I can say is that there are stupid people all around us, some of them even open there mouths to prove it. But what can we really do? Stupid people will be always around us. The best advice I can give is do NOT let them have power over you by their mear words.

I say the caller should just stop showing his support for the Browns and not go to any more games. Oh wait...he doesn't go to the games now. I am surprised that he knows who Brady Quinn is. This whole report smells of bull$hit. The guy is looking for a payday and was being a total drama queen on the phone. He was inside on the phone and they were outside on the street?? Quit staring outside!

The really sad part is that someone would actually call an emergency number to say that someone called them a name. I do not think that is a life or death situation. Isnt that what 9-1-1 is for? A life or death situation. There are always 2 sides to a story.

Gay is not a race, hence this is not a racist comment. If it were true, it would be a derogatory statement. It most likely is what it is...a fabricated lie. Are we to believe that Brady Quinn had nothing better to do than stand OUTSIDE a bar "ALL NIGHT" and make derogatory comments? The callers initial statement was "Brady Quinn was outside" and "his friends" were trying to start trouble.
I'm pretty sure with his looks, money, and status, he would have other priorities/options he would do before partaking in gay bashing. If it were as bad as he stated, there would have been some arrests to coincide with this story.

#21 You're right. My mistake. It is not racist, but I guess I put it in the same class. It's rude and demeaning and unnecessary and, well, stupid. But, before anyone passes judgment on Brady Quinn or his accuser, we really need to hear both sides.
