Shutdown Corner - NFL

Yesterday on FOX's pregame show, Terry Bradshaw put together a list of ten predictions for the rest of the season. Snuck in there at #7 was this little tidbit:

"Brett Favre announces his retirement before the final game."

Interesting.

What I don't know is if Terry Bradshaw knows something here that no one else knows, or if he's just making a wild guess. Wild guess is certainly possible.

But that Bradshaw might have some inner-circle knowledge on Favre isn't inconceivable. They're both Gulf Coast area guys, they're both members of the great quarterback fraternity, and both strike me as the kind of guys who might own a Big Mouth Billy Bass. They're probably buds.

So if Favre wasn't happy, he didn't feel like the Jets had a legit shot at winning a Super Bowl soon, he had finally hit every milestone he wanted, or he didn't think he could do any more to make Aaron Rodgers' life difficult, Bradshaw might know about it.

That's the point of view for those of you who like to read into things.

Of course, the other thing to consider here is that even if Bradshaw was privy to some inside Favre information -- or even if Favre straight up told him, "Terry, I'm going to announce my retirement in Week 17" -- would it really matter?

What could Brett Favre say in regards to his retirement that you'd blindly accept as truth? Retirement announcements from Brett Favre are about as reliable as "I'm not taking this job" statements from Nick Saban, or "I'm this close to finding the real killer" statements from O.J.

But if you want to read into what Bradshaw said, it's there for you. Do what you want with it.

Not only are both Bradshaw and Favre the types of guys who would own a Big Mouth Bass, they're probably also the types to be cajoled out of at least $25K by one.

Hey Y'all! Why isn't the league screaming about the Jets running up the score? If it was the Patriots, everybody would be crying UNFAIR....bunch of babies

    # 7, Because the Jets only score more than 40 points once every 30 years, so nobody worries about it....

Right now, somewhere in America, Jeff George is sitting by his phone awaiting a call from the Jets. That's assuming of course he's not in the gym, keeping his glutes fit as they were the day he first joined the league in 1976.
JEFF GEORGE has the arm of a 25 yeard old!!!!!!!!!! Call him!!!!!!!! I'm not Jeff George either!!!!!!!!

Jets had a huge statement win this weekend, bring on the Gaytriots! Revis will shut down Randy Moss like he has every top receiver this year, and there is no way the Pats can beat us twice with Matt Cassel I refuse to believe that.

limabean only a retarded idiot would say the jets didn't run up the score. Last year if the Pats won by more than 20 points, they were accused of running up the score. I'm sorry your so stupid as to say the jets didn't run up the score. Bottom line is any time a team wins by 44 points they ran up the score period.

Are you kidding me? The difference between the Jets and Pats is last year the Pats scored a touchdown with about 10 seconds left in the game after they were up by about 20 or so. Did you actually watch this game? the jets were on the 15 yard line with 2 mins left to play, they could have easily scored another touchdown or atleast a field goal, but they kneeled the ball and ran out the clock.
I have to say tho Belichick was the man for my fantasy football team last year.

after all the fuss this past summer, brett retiring at the end of this season would be a douchebag move. i think he realizes he lost a few fans with the way things played out, and i'm fairly sure he'll be back for the jets next season - if they still want him.
there's too much money and pride involved in this.

Bradshaw "might" have some behind the scenes info, He proaboly forgot where He put it though. Brett seems to have rallied this young team into winning , but the Rams, they are a disgrace ! If the Jets play with NE. we'll know more about they're capabilities. Brett looked like He was having fun & I for one think He's at least earned it.

I'm a Pats fan. It is the defenses job to stop the other teams offense. There is NO such thing as running up the score. Anyone who complains about such things is a loser all the way. WAAAAAAAAH. Congrats to the Jets.
    See you Thursday.

i completely disagree with that remark... favre threw for like 150 yards... and all they did after the first quarter was hand the ball off... the jets are a decent team at best... they have an aging quarterback and running back, and the rams aren't as terrible as they look either... the jets got lucky to score that many points, and as everyone else has said... they did it by running... not throwing, and not converting 4th down plays...
and anyone who says the pats didn't run up the score last year is a retard... name one game where brady didn't throw for 300+ yards, or when he didn't have 3+ touchdown passes... and name any game when he was pulled before the final down... you can't, because all they did the entire season was score 50 points against teams that didn't have a chance in the first place...
