Andy Reid: Anquan Boldin isn't really available

As I've suspected, it seems like the availability of Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin(notes) is a myth. That's what I take away from these comments from Andy Reid, who said that the Eagles did check in with the Cardinals about acquiring Boldin. From the Philadelphia Inquirer:

Reid suggested the price might have been first-, third- and fifth-round draft picks.

"That's a lot of picks, No. 1," Reid said. "And then you're going to pay the guy $10 million. So you get hit on both sides of it."

[...] Reid said he thought Arizona probably wasn't willing to part with Boldin. If the Cardinals were, a deal would have been struck.

"He's a pretty good player and he's still there," Reid said.

Yeah, the Cardinals aren't really expecting anyone to cough up a 1, a 3, and a 5 for Boldin. No disrespect intended, and I love Anquan Boldin, but they're not getting that much for him. The Patriots aren't going to call and offer them Tom Brady(notes) in exchange for Matt Leinart(notes), either, in case they were wondering.

I suspect that the Cardinals know this, but they go through with the charade anyway, just so they can turn to Boldin and say, "Hey, we tried to trade you. We couldn't get anything good. Shucks. Hey, I guess you might as well just stay here, huh?"

There's a long way to go before this little drama's played out.

Anquan's little brother is going to tear it up in Detroit...haha Boldin needs to come to reality with his pay expectations...there are a few receivers in the league that put up just as good numbers but they dont complain about their pay...Andre Johnson! Go Texans!

Cardinals should pay him 8-9 million dollars. If they don't trade him and they don't raise his pay to what he wants I think that there will be some locker room distractions
Boldin kept pretty quiet last year I think that will change and it will hurt the team which might be trying to build on its great playoff run lasy ear

Teams have proved over and over again, you don't trade your picks for a veteran, especially one like Boldin who will command a big salary.
There's a reason why teams like the Eagles, Patriots, Colts and Giants are so good, they draft players instead of trading for one.
Is Boldin better right now than 3 22 year olds? Yea. But will those 3 players be making less than 10 Mill? Yes, and 3 players for the future is how you stay good. One player like Boldin doesn't make you much better.

People tend to forget that this is a team sport. Just having good parts doesn't make a good whole. Players who are successful are at least in part successful because of their teammates. Would Anquan have had the numbers last year if Matt Leinhart had played the whole year?? Will Cassell have the same numbers next year at Kansas City without Moss and Welker, etc. Don't forget teams with good offensive lines and how that helps the skills players rack up fantasy points. Players who are upset about their salaries may be jumping from the frying pan to the fire when they leave. Just like a lot of number 1 picks don't "pan out" because they are going to a bad organization/losing team.

Trade him to Tennessee, for Draft picks Jared Cook,Gerald McGraft, and Javon Ringer they are unproven players but would add depth at several key positions for the Cardinals and the Titans would really help their passing game. This trade would probably put the Titans in the driver seat to make it to the Super Bowl.

i'm sure the cardinals feel this is the best way to give the illusion of caring about their player's wishes, while still being able to keep him. i'm more worried about the precedent this will set - every other owner in this situation will try to overvalue their disgruntled players as well.

Overvaluing your disgruntled players deosn't always work. Lito Shepperd was a waste of a roster space last year.

why should Arizona do anything hes under contract for a couple more years. Whats he going to do not show up to games ans mandatory team activities and not get paid at all. Anquan should have thought about this before he signed his last contract.

What part of contract is so hard for these WRs to understand. A deal is a deal. Life is not fair!
    1. A contract is an agreement between two or more parties for the doing or not doing of something specified.
    2. An agreement enforceable by law.
    3. The written form of such an agreement.
    4. The division of law dealing with contracts.

Boldin's one of my favorite players, and I'm an Eagles fan, but there's no way he's worth that much. The Cardinals could rework his conract, but they won't.
