Ahman Green fall down go boom

Before last season, the Houston Texans signed Ahman Green to a 4-year, $23 million contract. In his first year under that deal, he gave the Texans just 70 carries, and gained an average of 3.7 yards on each of them. I'm sure he'd have done better, had he not been injured for most of the year.

So the Texans would certainly like for Green to play the '08 season like he isn't made of porcelain, and give them a little better return on their investment. How's that going for them? Not so good.

On his first touch in the first game of the preseason, Green pulled his groin and was done for the evening.

Head coach Gary Kubiak is saying that he's day-to-day, but when we're talking about Ahman Green, the label "day-to-day" sounds a little more dour than it does when applied to most people. It's kind of like saying that Amy Winehouse "feels like having a drink," or that Pacman Jones "would enjoy the company of a young lady right now."

Where do the Texans turn now?

“It basically brings about the importance of these young players getting better,” Kubiak said. “You know, Chris (Brown) and (Steve) Slaton, and I’m going to give them a chance to do that.”

Nonetheless, Kubiak said the team may consider adding another running back to the roster.

“We’ve been talking about that upstairs,” Kubiak said. “We’ve got a couple of issues on our plate as we head to New Orleans this week. Practice against them a couple of times. Maybe make a couple of moves here tomorrow that will help us from a practice standpoint and freshen us up. We’ve got a few options out there that we’ll discuss tonight and see what we do.”

Oh. So basically, it's a huge mess, and they've realized that they can't count on Ahman Green for anything. Sounds about right.

Sign Shaun Alexander for a 1 year deal and see if he still has gas in the tank.

Ahman Green get hurt? Who didn't see that coming? It was a mistake getting him, let alone give him a long contract. Big anchor to the Texans

Ahman Greene has gotten very wealthy while going to the gym and visiting the trainer. As of yet, he has done nothing to earn his salary. The Texans should say "Amen" to Ahman and save the "green" for a football player who is willing to earn his money on the football field actually playing football.

Hitman, I know you were trying to be clever, but what does saying Amen to Ahman mean? Are you under the impression Amen means goodbye?

I agree Bo, it would have been more clever and relevent for Hitman to say it's time the Texans so say adieu.

There is nothing I would love better than to see Brett to play the packers...... The Packers did wrong by not letting him play another season .... and I hope they realize that.... it all comes down from the President to our coaches and they can't say it didn't. They are afraid of him playing the Packers cause Little Rogers might not look so good when they loose.

Speaking of the Saints, maybe Houston should try trading for Pierre Thomas. I know he only had that one good game, but they could probably get him for less than Shaun Alexander would cost them.
Aside from that, they still have Darius Walker on the roster. He may not be ready for a full-time role as an NFL running back, but I think you use him and Slaton backing up Chris Brown to keep him healthy. It seems like ages ago when Brown was taking the league by storm as a Tennessee Titan, but he's just continually had trouble staying healthy since then. Every other team in the league is splitting up their carries, so why wouldn't Houston? It makes sense to me.

Anybody remember the houston running back that was the starter before green. I remember he had a couple really good seasons. Then he got hurt in preseason in '05 or '06 and never heard about him again.

green was past his prime befroe we signed him last year and mgmt should have known this guy was injury-prone and has fumble fingers. so what do they expect if he stays on the field, not to turn the ball over. lets get real, if he was all cracked up to what he believes green bay would have kept him. walker needs to be the starter this year and he earned it last year at the end of the season. i think a combo of walker and slaton would be pretty nice. i would drop brown because well he has never proven he deserves to be in the league or stay healthy enough to finish a season, and i would pickup dayne again for short yardage and goal line. i am not sure anyone in our front office has a clue about talent for the running back position.

Ask Green does he remember brutally beating up a female classmate in elememtry school in Los Angeles, cause she remembers him first and last name and will never forget it.,scared her for life. His bad luck is probably due to karma coming back to him. TRUE STORY.
