The
four accused assailants in the Sean Taylor murder case won't
be getting the death penalty if they're convicted. Prosecutors have opted
instead to go for mandatory life in prison, and if convicted, the judge will
have no choice but to give them the long ride.
The accused triggerman, Eric Rivera Jr., was only 17 during the November shooting at Taylor’s suburban Miami mansion. He has since turned 18 but would only face a maximum of life in prison because of his age.
Charles Wardlow, 19, and Venjah Hunte and Jason Mitchell, both 20, are accused of driving across the state to steal from Taylor, a Washington Redskins defensive back, and have been charged with first-degree murder for their part in the crime.
By virtue of the state waiving the death penalty in the case, the suspects all have escaped the electric chair if convicted. Their attorneys received notification via certified mail late Friday.
Maybe I've seen too many prison movies, but I'm not sure that's a good thing for the young men, especially if there happen to be a lot of Redskins fans in the joint. If a Sunday comes along where the Redskins give up 45 points, including five passing touchdowns to Tony Romo, well, Monday might be a very unpleasant day for those fellows.
Gracias, Pro Football Talk.

If a scenario like that ever happens, the wounds will be reopened. And it will be so until 2017.
Fry those [profane]ers.
