Shutdown Corner - NFL

Brett Favre's locker had been sitting untouched in Green Bay's locker room since his retirement, and it has caused more consternation than any big wooden box in the history of the National Footall League.

People wondered if it meant that the organized believed Favre would be coming back. People wondered (unfairly, in my opinion) if presence of the locker would affect Aaron Rodgers, as if he'd walk by it every day and be reduced to tears when he's reminded that he's not Brett Favre. That's a pretty negative assumption about Aaron Rodgers's mental toughness, isn't it?

As it turns out, the Packers were planning on giving the locker to Favre, and just hadn't gotten around to it yet.

"Obviously I didn't realize it was going to get this kind of attention," Thompson said from his office Thursday afternoon. "We talked to Brett and (his wife) Deanna several weeks ago, and we thought that anybody who played 16 years here as well as he did might want his own locker. I think it makes it a little easier, quite frankly, for the next guy to go into there."

Well, that solves that. It only leaves the question of what the hell a guy does with his own NFL-style locker in his home. Knowing Favre, he'll probably put it in his garage, and keep his fishing poles and spare lawnmower parts in there, but I think he should put it in his backyard, and charge the ladies of Green Bay $5 for a chance to come sit in the locker where Brett Favre used to sit in the nude. He'd make a fortune.

This is the dumbest I've heard. It's a locker. I don't recall Denver giving John Elway his locker.

Aaron Rodgers will be just fine. He's a pretty confident guy so I doubt that the locker affected him in any way. The whole locker thing is just something the media jumped on. They're always trying to make a story out of nothing.

I'm a die hard Cowboys Fan but Green Bay is my 2nd team so I'm not bashing Aaron Rodgers at all but i will say this if Aaron doesn't win 3 of his first 4 games the Packers fans will be calling for his head on a platter and it will be done for him ... I hope he does well ... There will never be another Brett Farve. He was the best Qb in the legue for 14 years straight enjoy all the memorys. How many Superbowls would the Packers of won had it not been for them going to Dallas every year? In my opinion at least 2 more possibly 3 or 4. GO DALLAS .... Dallas 14-2 this year and beat Indy 35-27 in the bowl. Green Bay 8-8 i hope...

GB 8-8, I believe that is far from true, I think they will win the division and should end up with 11-5, worst case. Dallas 14-2, more like 12-4 or even 13-3.
