Shutdown Corner - NFL

Courtesy of NBC New York, here's video of Plaxico Burress walking into a New York police station to turn himself in for putting a bullet into his own thigh. Plax is the taller gentleman getting out of the backseat.

See there? No limp. And they question this guy's toughness. He's walking on his own power into a police station. That's a bullet wound, son.

And for more non-information that sort of sounds like information, here's Plax's lawyer:

I love the fact that Plaxico is referred to as a "responsible professional" by the man defending him for shooting himself in the thigh at a nightclub. That takes a pair. That's like trampling and killing a man because you wanted to buy a $9 blender and then calling yourself a "responsible and ethical shopper."

Giants don't need him - Hixon's a better player anyway, and less of a distraction. If he can clean his act up we'll take him, but what an arse. Go G-Men!

That's a good lawyer right there. Just throw as many good-sounding words as possible: "professional, responsible, adult, serious, expeditiously" and let that whole mash of positive sounds coagulate into something that sounds like it means something good for your client. Plax will be fine, this lawyer fella is on top of things.

Gotta love how in the Walmart story you linked to, they list some of the items that were for sale at the end of the story. Now that's hard-hitting yet sensitive journalism!

The Giants should send Burress to the Cowboys just so we can watch the 3-way cat fight. Plus, he and Tank can sit around and shoot the knees- I mean breeze - about the latest is personal firearm technology. It's a win-win all the way around and I hear ammo is cheaper in Texas, too.

Professionalism-The true meaning-Doing what is right off the field as doing what is right on the field!!! As I am Retired from the US army after 20 years...my actions off duty implied to the professional actions while on duty..now thats Professional!!! Having a firearm means either you are going to use it if you have too...We are talking about a Professional Football player...oh my mistake...a football player who doesn't know what Professional is. End of Story.

You failed to mention that Plaxico did not play Sunday because he has an injured knee. Not sure if the knee and thigh are on the same leg or if he was not limping due to either "injury." Maybe he is a professional actor?
Also, I wonder if he is on some kind of dance therapy for his knee. I always like to go dancing after a strained meniscus or torn ACL. It's kinda like my Swim the English Channel after Shoulder Separation therapy.

Post #1 Ken A, I agree with you, these so called pro athletes, continue to display their incredible stupidity. I mean everybody and their dog knows you do not take a firearm into any establishment where alcohol is served. These idiots are just children in an adults' body. Because they grew up playing a sport for a living and they are adored by the general public, they never grew up, never matured. They all need nanny to follow them around, to babysit them and breast feed when they are hungry!

Plax go play with Shockey in New Orleans. Its a good place for a moron like you. Credit to all the Giants for not letting this idiot distract their play. The Giants dont need you . If I was the owner Id pay you what I owed you for the remainder of your contract to go play elsewhere. Begone moron.

As stupid as Plax is, it is pretty damn impressive to only walk with a slight limp after a bullet went clean thru your thigh. The guy is walking right now like he could suit up if needed in the playoffs. No doubt he is tuff.
But this is actually a blessing for the Giants who continue to take on the persona of their QB, whose qualities everyone knocked a year ago. They prepare, they execute, and they step up in a big spot. Say what you want about Eli, the guy is a winner. No matter how bad a game he is having, he usually lights it up when it matters most. The man quietly goes about his business week in and week out.

David, I don't think anyone has claimed the bullet went 'clean through'. I'm guessing he grazed it, and some limited first aid was sufficient to limit the bleeding.
If it went through a large chunk of muscle, he'd be done for the year. Reports say he's close to being able to play...
