Reebok getting 'Ocho Cinco' jerseys ready

While the NFL continues to consider what to do about Chad Ocho Cinco, formerly Chad Johnson, two sources said Reebok is quickly making jerseys bearing his new name and the Cincinnati Bengals are getting his new uniform ready for the season opener at Baltimore.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday, "As far as the name on the jersey, we have not yet addressed it."

The word "yet" would seem to indicate that the league will have some say on Ocho Cinco's new moniker. Ocho Cinco has a long history of butting heads with the league over his touchdown celebrations and other antics. Johnson said recently that he's not even sure how many times he has been fined by the league.

As for the name change, a person close to Ocho Cinco said there is really nothing the league can do about it. The only rule anyone close to Johnson is aware of is that a player must go by his legal name.

Last week, Ocho Cinco officially changed his name from Johnson after filing paperwork with the state of Florida, where he was born.

Aiello said there "are no NFL rules pertaining to a player changing his name … several players have legally changed their names over the years."

In this case, however, Ocho Cinco has changed his name for the sake of marketing and entertainment, not because of something more common such as the adoption of a different religion or the recognition of family.

It has long been speculated in the NFL that Chad is an entertainer. His recent name change simply proves that he is...an entertainer. Sadly what the Bengals need is an athlete. Please let me know when that professional shows up!

I think its freaking hillarious! I mean come on, who doesn't love a metaphoricall "bird" flying in the face of Roger Godell and the NFL? I mean come on, its his name, let him do what he wants with it. I unfortantly though am not a Bengals Fan, if you don't count my thanks for them cutting Rudi Johnson so the Lions got to pick him up! It his funny to me that Rudy is going from a town with one "Johnson" to another (Calvin Johnson), oh wait.. I mean one Ocho Cinco (formerly Johnson) to a real Johnson!
Nobody has a Johnson on the Bengals squad now, how dissapointing.
    hahaha

I wish the guy would just be quiet and play football. Use that energy in staying healthy and trying to be the best WR that he can. Some of his stuff was funny at first but i am sick of hearing about him.

People call him selfish, call him all sorts of names. Tell me the last time he had some BS injury and sat out? no the guy goes out and produces year in and year out. I may not always agree with the guy or his antics but he plays the game and he plays it at a level that few can match yet alone exceed.

i'm a bengals fan, and have been for my whole life, but this is ridiculous. chad ocho cinco needs to shut his mouth, learn it isn't about him, and start to play for his team. his team has shown it's not willing to put up with his crap, it needs to continue. i'd like to see our team start to get its image put together. please, mike brown, do something. if not, please, roger goodell, do something... please...
and chad, just remember, if you end up at another team, ocho tres doesn't sound nearly as cool.
