Hoping to add more technical skill to a midfield that already features Brazilian Juninho, the New York Red Bulls have added 20-year-old Spanish midfielder Ruben Izquierdo.
The team officially announced the signing of the Izquierdo after he had spent time with club as a trialist during the preseason. Izquierdo will be added to New York’s roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.
“Ruben is a very interesting young player with a lot of potential. He is technically very good and his willingness to work and learn bodes well for his future development,” Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh in a written statement.
Izquierdo joins the Red Bulls after a stint with Charlton Athletic, where he played since 2011. Izquierdo was sent on loan to Spanish side CD San Roque de Lepe during the 2011-12 season, and he scored once in 10 appearances.
Before Izquierdo, a product of Mallorca's academy, signed with Charlton he was a member of Halesowen Town for a season scoring two goals in 18 games.
