The New York Jets lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, September 16. Although the Jets started out strong, by the second quarter the wheels fell off and they could not recover. Quarterback Mark Sanchez had trouble hitting his receivers. New York's defense did little to stop the Steelers from marching all over the field. What went wrong?
For some reason Mark Sanchez was not clicking with his receivers after the first quarter. Many of his throws were off-the-mark and throw too high. Constant pressure from the Steelers' defense added to his problems.
The wideouts were responsible for many of the passing issues. They were unable to catch and hold onto a ball for most of the game.
The Jets' defense is usually one of the best in the NFL. Against the Steelers they looked like they were napping. Too many missed tackles resulted in scores for Pittsburgh.
Stupid mistakes and too many personal fouls added to Gang Green's problems. This is not something you can blame on the replacement refs. New York made it easy for the Steelers to move the ball. You can't defend against penalties. The Jets need to work on either not making so many mistakes or they need to work on not getting caught so often.
Tebow saw very little playtime this game. I don't think it had an outcome on the game. Tim Tebow played for three downs in the third quarter as the quarterback. Mark Sanchez took over with a second and sixteen situation. They should have looked to Greg McElroy to see if he could turn the game around.
The Jets face the Miami Dolphins next Sunday in Miami. Injuries are still an issue. At this point the return of Darrell Revis is questionable. All things equal, New York should beat Miami but nothing is a guarantee with the Jets.
Looking forward to the Jets playing Miami. New York has a week to regroup and prevent the team from going 1-2. This is going to be a tough year to be a Jets' fan.
