New York Jets Announce Final Roster Cuts: A Fan's View

Yahoo Contributor Network

The New York Jets reduced their roster to the mandatory 53. Three final players were cut on August 31, 2012. The cuts include two wideouts and a tight end. The injury laden players have recovered. Expect to see Santonio Holmes and Jeremy Kerley in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

Wide Receivers

The New York Jets cut Jordan White, which was somewhat of a surprise. White was one of three draft picks cut by Gang Green. Jordan White did okay during preseason and they need more depth at this position. There are no guarantees that the receivers will stay healthy. Royce Pollard is the other wideout who did not make the team.

Tight Ends

The final cut was former professional rugby player, Hayden Smith. It is not surprising that he did not make the final 53. Rugby players are tough enough for the NFL but it is a totally different sport. The Jets are considering keeping Smith on the practice squad.

Manish Mehta of the Daily News posted the current New York Jets roster. This is not the final 53. Expect changes as players become available off waivers. The Jets have a final chance to beef up the weak spots in the roster. They open the season on September 9, at home against the Buffalo Bills. Game time is at 1:00 p.m. on CBS.
