The seats on the New York Giants' bandwagon, at least in terms of their rise up the NFL power rankings after their five-game winning streak, emptied quickly two weeks ago when they lost to the Dallas Cowboys.
Following a win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday night, Big Blue is still in the lower middle in most of the rankings, with most conceding that it's just not going to be their year. At 5-7, a wild-card playoff spot is pretty much off the table and thanks to being swept by Dallas, the Giants are essentially three games out of the division lead with four games to play.
Here's where the Giants stack up in this week's various Power Rankings:
Frank Schwab, Yahoo Sports: 23, up three spots from last week
"Someone, anyone, explain to me why that putrid Sunday night game wasn't flexed out. I get it, two big markets for ratings, but that doesn't mean we should all suffer."
ESPN.com: 22, up one spot from last week
"With no games remaining against the Eagles or Cowboys and the NFC West and South producing wild-card locks, the Giants need a miracle to make the playoffs."
Brian Billick, FOXSports.com: 18, up five spots from last week
"Well hello there, Justin Tuck."
Pete Prisco, CBSSports.com: 20, up three spots from last week
"They have a pulse. Barely. At least the defensive front showed some life."
Vinnie Iyer, The Sporting News: 20, up two spots from last week
"The Giants continue to prey on teams with struggling quarterbacks and that includes Robert Griffin III in Washington in Week 13. Their own struggling QB, Eli Manning, has been saved by Andre Brown's exceptional running."
Elliot Harrison, NFL.com: 21, up two spots from last week
"Say this about the Giants: They don't fold their tents. Nor do they take their football and go home. Big Blue might ultimately be going nowhere, but to come back from 14-zip, on the road, after playing like crap, in a season they'll be lucky to finish at 7-9? That says much about Tom Coughlin and the character of the Mara family's organization."
