The New York defense had no answer for Hakeem Nicks, but it would prove not enough to avoid an ugly loss for the Giants against the Chargers, 37-14, in San Diego.
Eli Manning finished 20 for 32 with 259 yards, one touchdown and two picks. Philip Rivers put up better numbers for the Chargers, and wound up 21 for 28 with 249 yards passing, three touchdowns and one fumble.
Andre Brown ran for 81 yards on 16 carries in addition to three receptions for 15 yards with one fumble. Nicks was a top performer, snagging five passes for 135 yards.
The New York defense surrendered 144 yards rushing and 249 passing. They sacked Rivers two times.
Chargers running back Ryan Mathews had a big game, putting up 103 yards rushing, 32 receiving and one touchdown. Wide receiver Keenan Allen also performed well with 59 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The Giants will play host to the Seahawks (11-2) next week while the Chargers head to Denver to face off with the Broncos (11-2).
