The York College of Pennsylvania women's basketball team played in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Friday, March 2, 2012. The York College Spartans got a solid victory over St. Vincent College. The Spartans won the game 86-66. The teams kept the game close in the first half, which ended with the Spartans ahead by a score of 43-38. The Spartans, however, dominated the second half of the game, which ended with a score of 43-28. St. Vincent was eliminated from the tournament and the Spartans moved on to the next round.

The Spartans are scheduled to play in the second round on March 3, 2012, against Juniata College. This may be a difficult game for the Spartans to win. Juniata College currently has a record o 26-2 overall whereas the Spartans have a record of 23-5. Though record alone will not matter, it may be an indication of the abilities of the teams. The two teams did not meet in the regular season. This game will be held at Juniata College. Tickets will cost $6 for adults and $3 for seniors and students.

Unfortunately, the York College men's basketball team was not successful in their first round game. The men's team fell to Franklin & Marshall College by a score of 72-50. The loss was a huge disappointment to the team. This was the final season for the team's long time head coach, Jeff Gamber. Though the team did win the Capital Athletic Conference and earned Gamber his fifth CAC Coach of the Year Award, the loss in the first round is not how the team wanted Gamber to end his coaching career.

York College was not the only local college that sent teams to the tournament. Messiah College also sent both their men's and women's basketball teams to the NCAA Division III tournament. The Messiah men's basketball team fell in the first round to the University of Scranton. However, the women's team managed to defeat Kean University with a score of 73-50. The women will be playing the University of Mary Washington's women's team on Saturday, March 3.
