Yankees' Rivera says he'll be ready for opener

The SportsXchange

Yankees closer Mariano Rivera said on Wednesday he will be "definitely ready" to pitch during Spring Training and will be available to pitch in the Yankees' regular-season opener against the Red Sox on April 1, reported.

"Oh yeah, I don't see why not," Rivera said, according to the report. "We have at least three months, four months to that point. I'll be ready."

Rivera, who turned 43 two weeks ago, had surgery to repair a torn anterior-cruciate ligament in his right knee.

He signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Yankees and expects to feel 100 percent soon.

"I don't want to give you a number, I don't want to speculate, but I'm feeling good," Rivera told "The leg is getting stronger and stronger, and that's it. You have to give it time. I am doing my part, and time is doing its part."
