Yankees place Jeter back on DL

The SportsXchange

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a grade 1 quadriceps strain, the club announced Friday.

The move is retroactive to July 12.

The Yankees called up utility player Brent Lillibridge from Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Jeter's spot on the roster. Lillibridge was recently acquired from the Chicago Cubs, where he went 1-for-24 earlier this year.

Jeter, 39, started the season on the DL after having ankle surgery. He came back for one game last week before straining his quadriceps. A grade 1 strain is the least severe. He went 1-for-4 on July 11 against the Kansas City Royals in his brief return.
