Yankees' Nova, Cervelli leave with injuries

New York Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova and catcher Francisco Cervelli had to leave Friday's game against Toronto because of injuries.

Cervelli suffered a broken hand when he was hit by a foul tip in the first inning., The team said the injury will require surgery and that Cervelli will be sidelined for at least six weeks.

Nova left the game in the third inning because of pain in his right elbow. He will have an MRI exam on Saturday to determine the extent of the injury.

David Phelps relieved Nova, and Chris Stewart replaced Cervelli as the Yankees' catcher.

Cervelli is hitting .269 with three homers in 17 games. Nova entered Friday with a 1-1 record and a 6.14 ERA.
