Nearly two hours prior to Wednesday afternoon's Cleveland Indians-New York Yankees series finale at Yankee Stadium, manager Joe Girardi announced that left-hander CC Sabathia has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a mild strain of the adductor muscle.
According to Girardi, Sabathia (9-3, 3.45 ERA) felt discomfort last Sunday and will miss two starts. The Yankees skipper added that he expects his ace to return after the All-Star break.
Until then, veteran right-hander Freddy Garcia (1-2, 6.91 ERA), who's been sporadically used out of the bullpen since his demotion earlier this season, will replace Sabathia in the Yankees rotation.
