Curtis Granderson left Saturday's matinee vs. the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium with a tight right hamstring, the New York Yankees announced during the AL East showdown.
Granderson was removed in the fifth and will undergo a precautionary MRI. The center fielder reportedly started feeling discomfort after left-hander Wei-Yin Chen struck him out looking in the second.
While the severity of Granderson's injury and length of time it'll keep him out for haven't been determined, the Yankees, who entered Saturday up two games in the American League East, ill need to be without another one of their key players for an extended period.
Presuming the returns of third baseman Alex Rodriguez (broken left hand) and left-handed starter Andy Pettitte (fractured left ankle) this month, the team is still missing first baseman Mark Teixeira, who strained his left calf in the Yankees' series opener vs. the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. Teixeira wasn't placed on the DL but is expected to be out for a few more days.
Through six innings, the Orioles lead New York 3-1.
