Yahoo Best XI - Top club teams in world soccer

Who is the best club soccer team on the planet right now? According to Yahoo's editors and writers around the world who cover the beautiful game, it's Bayern Munich.

The two-time defending German champions received seven first-place votes from Yahoo's panel of 15 experts. Bayern, Yahoo's pick to win the UEFA Champions League, returned to the top of the Bundesliga table on Tuesday with a 4-0 win over Paderborn.

Fernando Vives, sports editor of Yahoo Brazil, thinks Bayern manager Pep Guardiola is looking to erase the memory of "the disaster in the last Champions League, where he was beaten by Real Madrid."

"In my opinion this team will give much to talk about this year," Vives added.

Real Madrid is second in the Best XI despite being in fifth place in La Liga. Since losing 2-1 to rival Atletico Madrid, the reigning European champions have won three consecutive games by outscoring the opposition 18-4. Cristiano Ronaldo scored eight of the goals, including four in a 5-1 victory over Elche.

"After being the king of the Champions League, they got too confident," Yahoo Spain sports editor Andoni Biurrarena said of Real. "But it seems that everything is slowly being like last year."

The leaders of the English Premier League, La Liga in Spain and Serie A in Italy – Chelsea, Barcelona and Juventus – round out the top five of the Best XI.

The only team outside Europe to make the Best XI is River Plate of Argentina. Los Millonarios have six wins and one draw in their first seven games to lead Primera A.

"They're playing their best soccer in the last 10 years, maybe 15 years," said Federico Saint Romain, senior sports editor of Yahoo Argentina.
