Nick "Notorious" Newell was deadly with a 6" reach advantage over his opponent, Adam David Mays. Five of Nick's eight previous victories are via submission. This time he wanted to demonstrate his striking skills. "Well, a lot of people said I couldn't strike...Meet Nick Newell, the Striker...I noticed in his fights [Mays], he kinda leans down and throws the overhand. I expected him to think that he could take advantage of my left side. So, I just circled out and waited for the knee or the uppercut."
Nick Newell fights with half an arm on his left side.
The "That Dude is Nasty" Award
XFC commentator, Michael "the Voice" Schiavello has a new name for Nick Newell. Schiavello tweeted Newell following his win over opponent, Adam David Mays by knock-out, "Well done, you crazy one armed b**tard! As always, a pleasure to call your fight and get cardiac arrest. See you on @InsideMMAaxstv".

Eddie Bravo retweeted with a comment, "Dayum!! RT @psucarney: @arielhelwani @danawhite @joerogan One armed MMA beast Nick Newll! Round 1 KO tonight!"
By now, Nick Newell has to be on UFC Matchmaker, Joe Silva's radar.
"No sympathy from your teammates" Award
In the first fight of the televised event, Rick "the Sniper" Rainey (3-1) got cocky, dropped his hands and let Johnny "Buck Nasty" Buck knock him unconscious--flat out on the mat--at 1:32 of round two.
The fight had been going well for Rainey up until the moment he made a bad decision against a more seasoned fighter (11-8). Rainey had Buck Nasty spewing blood from his nose in the first round from a well-placed upper-cut.
According to the comments leading up to the fight between "The Voice" Michael Schiavello and Frank Miletich, these two 185ers have bad blood between them. After that knock-out, Rainey will have the opportunity to eat some humble pie. Hopefully, they can put whatever their issues are behind them. Both fighters live and train in North Carolina.
Note to self: never allow your nemesis to execute a highlight reel, knock-out on you during a televised MMA match
Felice Herrig vs Simona Soukupova
Felice Herrig with a 5" reach advantage over challenger, Simona Soukupova, made it difficult for Simona to defeat Herrig who won by unanimous decision (30-27 30-27 29-28 scores). This female match-up featured Muay Thai at it's best with elbows and clinch work from both fighters. Felice made effective use of her jab throughout the fight, raising a nasty-looking lump under Simona's right eye.
Michael "the Voice" Schiavello, XFC commentator quipped, "Felice is teeing off on her like a golf ball...Simona is taking more jabs than a diabetic."
Felice stayed focused, even after hitting the top of her head on the gate post, shooting in for a take down. Felice shook it off and kept on going (but didn't get the take down).
Felice called out Lacey "the Ladie" Schuckman
In her post fight interview with Pat Miletich, Felice, age 27 (7-4) called out Lacey "the Ladie" Schuckman, age 24 (7-5). Felice said that Lacey took a fight on short notice "with a high level Japanese fighter", Ayaka Hamasaki, for the Invicta FC 2 event on July 28. Felice wondered why Lacey is avoiding booking a fight with her, with three months notice.
Hamasaki (8-0) fights for the Jewels organization in Japan and is currently riding an eight fight win streak.
I wonder if a fight between Schuckman and Herrig would be contested on XFC (on TV) or Invicta FC (streamed online). Either way, that would be a great fight.
