The World Series of Poker (WSOP) was first played in 1970 with a mere six players. The WSOP has since then become poker's most prestigious event. This world famous poker tournament attracted nearly 76,000 participants that came from 105 different nations in 2011. They competed against each other to win more than $192 million in prize money. This major event is televised on ESPN and lasts for more than a month. The 2012 WSOP is the 43rd annual that now includes 61 separate bracelet tournaments in every type of poker game.
The 2012 WSOP takes place in the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino that is located at 3700 West Flamingo Road in Las Vegas, Nevada. Caesars Entertainment purchased the WSOP in 2004 and moved the World Series of Poker from the Horseshoe Casino in downtown to the present day location. The casino's main contact numbers are (Toll-Free) 1-800-752-9746 and (Local) 1-702-777-6777. Each year the casino transforms the Rio Convention area into an expanded poker room featuring 480 poker tables. The WSOP is held in the Pavilion, Brasilia and Amazon Room on the casino's property.
